cannot save to Windows 10 Desktop

Until Windows 10 version 1709 I was able to Save As to my Desktop. Now I cannot Save As to anything in my normal user path, but can save to C:temp for example. Has Windows 10 changed a path setting without my knowledge?
I also use Irfanview and it has no issues saving images anywhere. Windows Snipping Tool also works fine, but I prefer Snagit. Here is the error message I get from Snagit:

Hello,

I don't think anything's changed; I'm using WIN 10 Enterprise with SnagIt 2018 and can easily save to desktop like always. I wondered if it was a permissions thing then saw that 'This computer - desktop' is actually an alias for C:\Users\tm5055\desktop\ anyways. So it does work on WIN 10, perhaps someone else can provide more information.

Windows 10 is screwy with permissions but that does not look like a security error
Can you add some more details?

I don't use Windows 10 but have heard of people having this problem with other applications.

In most cases in was to do with the Controlled Folder Access  security feature Microsoft added in a update.

Try turning it off and see if that resolves the problem.

Windows 10 security can be a mess but usually not on default folders. I have had to add myself to the permissions list to solve similar issues even though I am in the administrators group and that had full permission. Go figure
His problem seems to be a message that the file does not exist that he is trying to save ... or resave. I hope he provides some steps and more details so he doesn't run down a rabbit hole that isn't going to help

The problem is with the new version of Windows 10, which added "Ransomware" feature.  I find it via Windows Defender (open it), click on Virus & Threat Protection, click on Ransomware Protection.. There you can turn it Off; if you have it On you'll need to give an App (i.e. SnagIt) permission to write files to the drive.  The problem is finding the location of the App if it is not listed.  I'm going to call Tech Support for assistance on that part.  Hope this helps out a little.
