Cannot set default store directory to network or USB drive

It looks like this is by design - I want to make my library my SUB drive so I can take that with me to share files.  My C Drive space is limits but techSmith wont let me make this basic change

If you are referring to the datastore directory, that is for temporary storage only. Once you save a file somewhere it will disappear from there and be only where you stored it.

So if you save your captures to a certain tree structure (My Documents/Snagit for instance) then just copy that tree to your portable media. Or get creative and make a batch file using XCOPY to copy the new stuff and delete the things deleted so the portable copy stays clean

I do this exact thing for something I need to carry away from home. If you want a sample batch file I can provide it here for you

This is the Library settings, which I assume are one in the same.

What is the point of a temporary store if you want to keep the images i create?  I also shouldn't have to create a batch file (which I can do) or use a sync program to copy the files.  I should be able to just save the files to a location I want (including my USB drive), let's say My Pictures like every other image program in the multi-verse does.  It really should not be this hard.

Trying to save on a network drive (at work we have dedicated network drives per user for our document locations so they get backed up) or to a removable drive, e.g. my 1 TB HDD, you get this unhelpful message:
Snagit cannot move the automatically stored files to a removable drive or network share.

Why is there this restriction? I certainly understand when I start Snag it, if the drive is not attached, I wont see my files so it can't be to save myself from myself.

No need to be testy. The datastore is a temporary folder that stores things YOU HAVE NOT SAVED between sessions
Once you save it somewhere it is no longer in the datastore. That's what it is, that's what it does
LIBRARY. THat is an overview of all your captures and it can include all captures and saves from all over your hard drive  It is a VIEW not a place on your hard drive
\My Documents\Snagit is a DEFAULT SAVE location and nothing more. You do not have to use it
Now ... you can always save to your removable media if that is what you want to do.
If you wanted to keep them on your hard drive AND copy them at will to a removable device, then a batch file might have helped but don't worry about that. it was just an idea
The error message? What are you trying to move? THe datastore folder? I have no idea if there is a restriction on moving that to a network drive. It is not a good idea IMO as it is only a local temporary storage

You seem to be confusing "Library" and "Datastore" with save locations. Learn what they are so you are no longer fighting yourself to get the behavior you want

Also this is a user forum. Most of the helpo you will get will be from other users. Techsmith shows up in here but this is mostly person to person

Not getting testy, just frustrated as there is not a simple solution to this.  And I am not fighting against myself" - how arrogant a comment . . . .

You say this:
It is a VIEW not a place on your hard drive
\My Documents\Snagit is a DEFAULT SAVE location and nothing more. You do not have to use it
Now ... you can always save to your removable media if that is what you want to do.
But it is not true by default - you have to use a workaround - why should I (and all the others in the forums that have raised the same issue) have to?  I also don't want to keep them on the HDD and also a copy of them to USB, I only want to keep them on the USB, not the hard drive.

I still don't have a simple solution to my issue which is:
In SnagIt Editor, SnagIt Editor Preferences > Library > Library Location.  Default is:
C:\Users\<USER ID>\SnagIt Captures\.

I want to change it to my USB drive or my network drive as these are backed up and can be shared, among other reasons.  If I try to change it to anything other than my physical C:\ drive, I get this message:
SnagIT cannot move the automatically stored files to a removable drive or network share.
I understand what you are saying, but why is this restriction in place at all?
