Cannot Record Windows 8 start screen with SnagIt 12.1

This is not an Isolated problem. The attached video shows the Bug. I am running the trial version of SnagIt 12.1. The following thread references the same Issue.https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/make_windows_8_start_screen_video_in_snagit_12_1

Joe. I see what your saying. Interesting enough, you can capture the photo of the Metro UI, just not the video.

Thanks for sharing this issue. We will investigate this problem to determine what course of action can be taken, Windows 8 has certain rules around what user interface items can be visible "on top of" the Windows 8 start screen, which is why this problem crops up. 

As a workaround, in the meantime, you can do the following to record the start screen: 

1) Begin recording the screen, just as you did in the video above

--- This is where Snagit takes you back to the desktop and begins recording

2) Press the Windows key on the keyboard, or click the start button to take you back to the start screen
3) Continue doing what you planned to do during your recording, this will record the start screen
4) Stop your video, which opens it in the Snagit Editor
5) Trim out the first few seconds of the video where the desktop flashed open

I hope this helps out and we'll enter a bug to be investigated by the development team.

The bug has another layer to be looked at as well. I appreciate your detailed response because it's helpful to all. Thanks.

I have Camtasia and I also use another screen recorder so SnagIt recording is really not that important to me.
