Cannot save voice narration if file is locked

After recording a voice narration, if you're trying to save the recorded audio to a file that's currently been locked (e.g. by Camtasia Studio itself), Camtasia Studio doesn't provide an option to save the audio file using another name:

You can only abort the operation and re-record the narration all over again.

Very frustrating.

I get the same. You nail a voice narration only to lose it forever. Pi$$ing me *right* off!

Hi everyone,

I believe this bug was fixed with the Camtasia Studio 8.1.0 release. Now if you cancel the overwrite because the operation is failing, a new File Save dialog should appear allowing you to pick a different name.

If you have Camtasia Studio 8 installed (trial or licensed version), you can update to the new version by clicking Help > Check for Updates or by downloading and installing here.

Let us know if you're still experiencing any problems and thanks for you feedback!

Thanks for this suggestion Steve, I have 8.1.1 with the same issue, exactly as described here and in other Related Conversations displayed to the right. A new File Save dialog box does appear, but does not accept any file name.

Hey Robin and Mark,

Just to be clear, this is what you "should" be seeing: http://screencast.com/t/spsdaqRDm0op

You should only be able to exit the loop if either the save is successful or you cancel and confirm the cancel from the Save File dialog itself.  I just checked with our QA that it should be working on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in Camtasia Studio 8.1.0 or later (we did try Camtasia Studio 8.1.1 specifically).

If this is not what you're seeing, it would be helpful if you could make a recording of what is happening and post it here, or talk to our support: https://support.techsmith.com/home

I'm sorry you're still encountering this problem.  I hope this helps.

-Steven

I'm using 8.2.1 right now and it seems the problem has been solved.

I'm now able to hit the [Cancel] button which re-opens the File Save As dialog.

This is just what I've been expecting.

Thanks, Camtasia-Team!

I will absolutely not be upgrading. Time for a new program. This program has been around a very long time with very little improvement.
