You need to Drag the Video into the Timeline first. A window will pop up and allow you to set editing dimensions at that time. Using the Recording Dimensions, and Producing the video at the same settings. Will give you the best end results.

Hi Tejeswar,

Joe is right, you need to add your recording to the timeline before you can adjust the editing dimensions. To do so, you can:
  • Drag it from the clip bin to the timeline or
  • Right-click on the recording and select Add to Timeline at Playhead
Also, depending on which version of Camtasia Studio you're using, the editing dimensions may or may not display as Joe mentioned.

As of Camtasia Studio version 8.4, the editing dimensions are set by default, depending on whether you record fullscreen or custom. The default for a fullscreen recording is Maximum 720p HD, which means your video will be up to 720 pixels tall. For custom recordings, the editing dimensions default to the original recording dimensions. You may find our Editing Dimensions Basics tutorial helpful: http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-8-editing-dimensions-basics.html.

If the Maximum 720p HD setting doesn't work for you, and you'd still like to change the editing dimensions, you can click the editing dimensions button in the top left corner of your canvas

...and the dialog that Joe mentioned earlier will open up:

From there, you can select a different preset, or set a custom canvas size.

Hope this helps,
Leanne

@h.heijligers, just click on the editing dimensions button in the top-left corner of the canvas, as shown here:

Thanks for your quick response Dave!
I wish that was possible, but as you can see on the screenclip I don't have these buttons. So my question is: how do I get the buttons?

You are looking for "Adjust Canvas".  It can be found in multiple places in the UI.  One place is in the drop down to the right of the play controls.

You can also find it under the Edit Menu, and in the contextual menu for the canvas.

Thanks! And do you know by any chance how I can get these buttons to appear on my screen? See the above arrow in the first screenclip?

The first screenclip you are referring to shows the user interface of Camtasia for Windows.

Your images indicate that you are using Camtasia for MAC. You have posted your question in the Camtasia for Windows forum. That's why you are reading confusing responses.

I don't use the MAC version so I cannot definitively answer your question but I believe you can probably find the editing dimensions listed under the "File or Edit" tabs.
It may be called "Project Settings"

Hope this helps. If not try posting your question to the Camtasia for MAC forum.
