I had to do a clean install on a computer. Backed up the files, but now can't find my old Camtasia libraries to install in my reinstalled program. Now what?

did you create any custom assets?

if not, you can do a fresh install of Camtasia 2018 and the default Library will be recreated

when you said "clean install", was that for Windows or just Camtasia?

otherwise, Library files are located here ...

It was for Windows. I was having a problem with audio and video Rcording and Playback. I was getting continual Echo. I went to the Microsoft store and they tried replacing the drivers but that did not work. So they had me save all documents and settings, but unfortunately they did not have me save anything in the AppData folder. So I am faced with rebuilding virtually everything.

if you did not create any custom assets, simply installing Camtasia will restore the original Library, assuming that during install, you specify to install default the Library assets

if you had custom assets, just saving the app folder would not have worked, I believe; you would still have to have exported all Library assets as libzip, then imported the libzips into your new CS install

yep; they're probably history

hope you can create them again

going forward, recommend you export any custom assets as libzips; keep them in a safe place; I stick mine on One Drive in the cloud

I create a lot of small collections of custom assets, where a collection will apply to just 1 type of project group [like tutorial screencasts, or product improvement suggestion screencasts, or photo slide show screencasts, etc]

to be safe, as soon as I have a small collection finished, I'll export the group as libzip immediately

so, depending on the workload, an export might happen after a few hours, or a few days

I will also periodically select all my custom assets together, and export all in a single, large, libzip, just to be on the safe side

another thing I sometimes do, if I have had to invest a lot of labor in just 1 asset, is to export that single asset, not wait for the rest of the group to be finished

FYI, I used to keep my safe archives on external hard drives [zipped projects, produced projects, libzips]; but I've suffered total external HD failures 3 times in the past 4 years[7 TB in total]; thousands of archives up in smoke; now everything is archived in the cloud; uploads are a lot slower than an external HD transfer, downloads are pretty fast; but I'm more confident they won't disappear in a blink of an eye; assuming the cloud service survives; of course; but this requires fast internet, which is another thing altogether; no net = no archives available

so, with very important stuff, I keep multiple copies in multiple locations

but I doubt any approach is full proof?

Hi KC,
Did you lose all of your projects as well?
If not, you can open a project containing the custom assets and save them to the library from there.

The projects are there, but there's nothing in the folders other than the scripts and skins folders and an occasional e08 folder. Can  use them for anything?

the scripts/skins folders are from a production; do you still have the .tscproj project files?
