Can't open/upgrade project file (v7 to v8)

I'm using Camtasia 8.6.0 on Windows 7. I'm trying to open a file that was created in Camtasia 7. First, I get a window saying that Camtasia will automatically save a backup of the file, perform the conversion and then open then converted file -- I click "yes" to go ahead and then I get a window saying that the project can't be upgraded and I have to create a backup file myself -- but it doesn't give me any way to do that.  So...what do I have to do to get the file to open?

I have occasionally seen this issue myself; never could figure out why; never found a reliable workaround

suggest you contact tech support; maybe they can help?

you might also try opening the file in CS7, then zipping it up

import the new zip into CS8 and give that a try?

Thanks kayakman, I'll ask the person I'm working with to try zipping the project and see what happens.  I did contact tech support; the only suggestion was to have an .mp4 sent to me.  Will post back if the zip approach works!

Well, turns out the person supplying the files lost one of the main video files, so we couldn't try the zip method (wouldn't have mattered if I could open it anyway, without that video file!); had to resort to using a previously-produced .mp4.  Will keep this in mind next time this happens though!
