Can't record screen

I never had this problem using Camtasia 8. I just bought 9 and when I press the Record button it drops me to the desktop and nothing happens. I have restarted the computer, reinstalled Camtasia, updated graphics drivers... I can't figure it out. I don't get any kind of error message, nothing happens.

clicking the Record button will launch Recorder and select the last open app that was used [other than CS]; so seeing your desktop might be expected

Recorder should be open but not capturing

use alt-tab to see if there is an instance of Recorder open

if so, select that app

also, look at Task Manager to see of Recorder is listed as an active process

No, nothing happens. No instance of Recorder anywhere.

Powerpoint recorder seems to work fine if that means anything.

I just noticed you mentioned Power Point.DO you mean the Camtasia recorder works in Power Point?
Do you use more than one monitor by any chance?

Yes the CS Powerpoint add-on works, the screen recorder does not.

I do use two monitors, I tried setting my display to single monitor but that didn't work.

I just installed the newest version of Camtasia 8, it works fine. So I have no idea now why 9 won't work.

I'm stumped, I've had instances where the recorder is on the other monitor and won't appear on the main monitor.
I'd record with Cam 8 for now and contact support.

I know it is only a workaround but have you tried changing which monitor is your Main monitor and recording a sample and see if that works.  Just to let TechSmith Support and us know.

Well TechSmith support were right on it and they fixed it. If you have the Vorbis codec installed apparently it messes with CS9. Here's the solution:

Browse to this folder on your machine and locate the file below.

C:\Windows\System32\vorbis.acm

Right click on it and rename it to "vorbis.acm.bak"
