I captured a video in SnagIt, but everytime I try to save it, I get the message, "Cannot open video file.  Snagit does not support video with dimensions greater than 1920X1080."  Any suggestions on how to get around this message to save it?

Did you Import a video into the SnagIt Editor or did you use the SnagIt Recorder?

Hi there

For starters, it would seem to be a big ole honkin bug that it would allow you to capture at that size initially but then disallow saving. If that's really the case, It may be a red herring and indicative of a different issue.

The only thought that comes to mind here is to somehow play the video (if you can) and capture again. But this time at the dimensions being reported or smaller.

Cheers... Rick :)

Joe, I used SnagIt recorder.

Rick,  I agree.  I should have gotten a warning to change the size.  I tried what you suggested, played it in snagit (smaller size) and re-record, however, the snagit editor closes as soon as I hit the capture button.  Any idea how to capture a snagit screen or video in the snagit editor.

Hello, i have the same problem. After the freezing video couldn't be saved because of that error. The dimensions from my video profile are less than 1920x1080. Is there any way to solve this? My Snagit version is 12.3.1 and i have Windows 7

I have exactly the same problem, even so it was working very well before.

Hello I too have recently had this problem and, after being unable to find a solution, I back tracked over the things I had recently installed that I thought might have an effect on the editor program. I found the problem to be the video codec packs that I had installed. After uninstalling them, I ran a registry clean with Ccleaner (completely free) and restarted my PC. After that SnagIt Editor worked fine once again. I really hopes this helps some or all of you

Hi all,

I tried Sean's suggestion and am still having no luck recording videos with Snagit.  I'm running Windows 7 with the latest version of Snagit.  My laptop screen is nowhere near the resolution it's accusing me of.  Has anyone had luck with anything else?

This is marked as "Answered" so, what's the answer?  I see one solution that worked for one person and not for another.  So, is that the "answer?"

This seems to be fixed in Snagit 13

It's not fixed. Simply put no warning will appear and if you are recording a live broadcast that is not repeated you lose your video permanently. I have to say. I'm very disappointed that there is no warning.

I found a solution.  pen the editor, go to the "library", then "Videos".  Right click the video and choose "Save as". Saved mine as a mp4 and it worked.
