Can't see or access the Audio or Video Tracks in Camtasia Studio 8

I was trying to edit a recording I made using Camtasia Recorder 8 from the Camtasia 8.0.1 Camtasia Studio, however, I did not have access to the Audio and Video Tracks on the timeline. So, I checked for an update and downloaded the 8.0.2.918 version but still have the same problem. My Studio window cuts off just above the Tracks area and there is no scroll bar to allow me to access or even see the Tracks. I am using Windows XP

Open the project.

Then Click File -> Export project as zip.
Make sure "Include all files from Clip Bin in .zip" is checked.

When its done open the .zip folder and the audio file should be accessible.

Hope it helps!

Man - I was just thinking how great 8 is and then recorded audio and video together with Camtasia - and now i have no video track where I can see images which I can edit - they are both mashed together (Windows 7 64bit).

Really frustrating.

The zipping up trick mentioned above works - glad I found it - but leaves a mess with the track order and as tracks can not be sorted or moved up and down you end up fiddling with new tracks moving and deleting to get a logical order.

May be I am old fashioned - but I need my video tracks at the top and audio tracks at the bottom.

Really - recording audio and video at the same time should not cause this mess.

Hey Steffan,

Have you updated to 8.0.4? Are you still seeing these issues?

Actually this seems to be caused by tracks being merged and you have to separate audio and video to see the separate tracks. Strange but once you know it you can deal with it by right-clicking on the video.

I ended up (by accident) finding a solution for me. The default size for the preview screen was to large. Under the window I was able to get my cursor to turn into a double arrow and I was able to reduce the size of the preview screen (by clicking and dragging the bar upwards). As I did that I could bee the audio and video tracks come into view.

Actually it appears at least in latest version (8.12) you can righ click and separate the tracks so you can work on them separately - by default audio and video are combined in one track when you record them at the same time - which is quite confusing.
Better would be to show them in two separate tracks which are locked by default.

So ridiculous you have to separate the  audio and video manually, one by one! Are you kidding Techsmith? What on earth made you think people want those together? We are editing sound and clips, lots of clips. We also need the transitions separate. I went right back to 7.1

Yes, ridiculous. The whole area is black and the audio tab does not open all the audio options. Who designed this? Can't believe I paid to update.

Hello there,
If your referring to Camtasia 8.4.
As you add media to the timeline the tracks will show up as needed.
If you stack a video on top of another. A new track will open.
When enough new tracks are created. The scroll bar will appear on the right hand side of the timeline.

Regards, Joe

Solved: Thanks Joe, am not finding the upgrade very intuitive. I had thought that since double clicking on the media opened it in the viewer, this was all that was required to edit.

Through trial and error I found that I also have to physically drag the media into the timeline before it can be edited. Have spent a few days trying to make C5 work when it suddenly lost the capacity to render. Panic over deadlines.

The audio editing has sure come a long way since C5! Rendering is much faster. Also great to be able to upload direct to YouTube so that rendering and upload occur simultaneously. Great time saver.
