Can't use Font in Camtasia 8

Hello,

I have installed a OpenType font in Windows 7 (64 Bit), which I want to use in Camtasia 8 - but the font is not contained in the list of available fonts.

However, MS Word / OO Writer etc. are able to use this font.

I have also rebooted and verified that the font is shown in "show installed fonts" in the Windows Control Centre.

What can I do to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance, Simon

Simon,

We need some more information in order to help you.

Which font are you trying to use? I have 64-bit Windows 7. Is there some way I could try the same font?

Also, where were you trying to use this font? Callouts? Captions?

Thanks for any additional info you can provide.

Hi Dave,

sorry for the missing information.
The font I am trying to use is TitiliumText (http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/Tit...).
Meanwhile I found out that it is possible to use this font as a Text callout. But when I try to use it within lables/captions, the font list contains all fonts but not TitilliumText.

Thanks for your assistance!

Kind regards,
Simon

Simon,

Thanks for the additional information. I downloaded the font you linked, and tried to install and use it with Camtasia Studio 8.0.4 on 64-bit Windows 7. I'm getting the same results as you... it seems to work correctly with callouts, but is not listed as one of the fonts in the captions view.

I looked at the code that filters the list of fonts in the captions view. The code is filtering the list by removing all fonts that don't work correctly with GDI+, which is what we're curently using to draw the caption text on the frame. When we try to create the TitiliumText font, it fails with the error FontFamilyNotFound, as enumerated here. The error suggests that the font is not installed. But it clearly *is* installed, because it can be used correctly with callouts, and in some other apps as well, as you noted.

From what I've found through a bunch of Google searches, it sounds more like a shortcoming of GDI+ that it's not able to render some fonts. I will open a ticket for us to look at other ways to render the caption text for a future release.

In the meantime, I'm afraid the only workaround is to use text callouts instead of captions, assuming you need that particular font.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Hi Dave,

thank you for your investigation about this problem.
I can live with the use of callouts instead of captions - and the fact that I didn't do anything completely wrong with this font :-)

Kind regards!

Hi, guys:

Any update on this?  I, too, have a font I dearly want to use for a video I have to have ready not one minute later than Wednesday night (3/26/14).  I've had the video done for some days now, but have been dinking around with trying to use this font.  (Open Type).  Neither Snagit Nor CS 8.x "sees" the font.  But as your previous poster noted, other programs can see it and I've used it without incident on other items.

Any joy here?  I really want to use it.  If I have to, I can install another sans serif that will work "okay," but I'd rather use this.

Thanks in advance.

Hi! is there any update on this problem? I am trying to use Helvetica font, and it is possible to choose it for callouts, but not in the list for captions.

It seems like I really need to use captions, since I will be then exporting it for translation and uploading again, so I couldn't find if same is possible to do with callouts.

So any advice would be very much apreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Couldn't you just use both a call out shape, that is left blank, and the Text callout feature? That way you can use the font you want, but also have the added noticeability of the callout feature.
