This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Captions under video in Camtasia Studio 8

In 8 you no longer have the ability to do 508 compliant captioning off the video as you could in Version 7. This is a big problem for us at the DOT in Cambridge where all our videos have been produced in the later format. It will now signal a major altering of our workflow and we will have to output a wmv file from edited 8 and then recapture in 7 just to maintain the look and feel of the below the video captioning. This will be a majotr problem for all government compliant employees using camtasia I suspect.

Hi all - I'm happy to pass along the news that our development team made some changes in the new Camtasia Studio 8.0.3 to bring back under-video captions! It is a free update for anyone who owns Camtasia Studio; just open Camtasia and click Help > Check for Updates.

A couple of details...

You won't see the placement of the captions reflected in the preview window but when you produce to Screencast.com or the Flash/HTML5 player you have the option to place the captions below the video in the final, produced file.

This video from Camtasia product manager Shane Lovellette includes a section showing how the new caption placement works (see 14:35).

I'm going to go ahead and merge this thread since we have a number of duplicates. If you have additional ideas or questions about captioning or anything else, please chime in on that thread or start a new one.
