Capture Information problem

I am capturing loads of web screens as part of user testing.

Randomly, SnagIt  returns incorrect application information, returning details of SnagIt instead of the browser i captured the image from.  The capture info is added as part of the preset, so it's not possible for SnagIt to be the application.

Hi Paul, thanks for posting.

I think I may know what's going on and have a few questions to see if my hunch is correct:
  1. Are you using OneClick on the screen you're taking the captures on?
  2. Are you using a preset to initiate your capture? (I assume so as you mentioned presets in your post above.)
  3. Do you have 'Hide Snagit when capturing' enabled or disabled? (Go to Capture Window > File >  Capture Preferences >  Capture Tab to check.)
I would wager this problem will go away for you if you hide Snagit while capturing. If Snagit isn't hidden during capture then it's possible to detect it while capturing your desktop, which would cause it to show up in the Capture Info data.

If you don't want to hide Snagit while capturing, I'd recommend using the Capture Info preset (so Snagit isn't the last app that had focus) and avoid taking captures near the OneClick (you can see its area of effect if you move the crosshairs over it while the crosshairs are up).

Please let me know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks!

Hi Nick

Thanks for your reply

1 = Yes
2 = Yes, although when I am in for a long session I set reset the default capture for PrtSn
3 = I always have hide snagit turned off because, like may of the regulars on here, I frequently have to capture screenshots of SnagIt to illustrate my advice to others, or my own issues.

If that is what's causing this then it would be great to fix it.

a) If 95% of my screenshot comes from the browser and 5% from SnagIt, perhaps priority could be given to the former.

Or

b) Perhaps a warning, if capture is included in the capture criteria

"Screenshot contains elements from
Chrome
Firefox
SnagIt

Check the ones you want to be shown in the Capture Info"

(Because often I want more than one, for example if I am doing a side by side capture to compare two browsers on my split screen.)

Or

c) in the Image or preset settings for the Capture Info effect, add a setting

"Do not include SnagIt in Capture Info" which ignores a "Hide Snagit = Off" setting

Regards
