How do I capture a tooltip

Hi All,
I've got a section of a web page that has a call out tool-tip balloon that appears when you hover your mouse over it. I thought I could use the delayed capture option but it seems to work reverse of what I want to do.
How can I capture this?

I am running v7.2.5. An oldie but a goodie.

Thanks,
Jason

Bump. I'm running Snagit 11 and have the same issue - it's not capturing the tooltips even using the time delay

I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I just tried using Snagit 11.2 and was able to capture a tooltip in Windows Explorer using the time delay capture function. Here's a short screencast of the process: http://screencast.com/t/hwjUx7hdIS

This video shows how to capture tooltip ballon as a graphic, but not as text which can be edited on Notepad, MsWord etc...(Not like OCR can do it.) But with Snag-it 9.1.3 it can make text from tooltip, and text can be edited, on Notepad, MsWord, etc

Another trick you can do is whether you have Snagit or Camtasia, record the workflow. Then, extract the frame showing the tooltip from your video, or "snag" the part of the frame you need.

Sincerely,
Mike Curtis

What a workaround! I would also like the ability to capture screenshots with tooltips. This should be a feature by now.

Just tried the above method from the video demo. I can get the tooltip itself, but not the surrounding area - showing the cursor hovering over an icon. As soon as you click outside the tooltip, it goes away.

Paint is not a text editor.... it cannot display text in text mode, but only a graphic....

I think he meant PrintScreen, paste into Paint, select all and press control+C to copy the image from paint. Then go to SnagIt and select File-->New from clipboard. That should work.

Problem solved, I think.  Try a different browser.  I can capture tooltips if I use Firefox 41, but not IE 11.

Heh Leslie, I should have thought of that!  I tried everything ...I know it used to work with version 11 but my new laptop it wouldn't work for some reason.  Changing to Firefox did the trick..so thanks.

Sure.  This is an image from my browser.  Point to the icon, tool tip appears, capture with Snagit.  In this case, I'm also capturing the pointer.

Ok, your caption as shown is a graphic but not as a text... I was talking about text caption from a windows as this:

 Poste de travail
Fichier      Edition      Affichage       Favoris      Outils      ?

      Précédente                                Rechercher           Dossiers

          PostePoste de travail                                                                                                       OK
  Adresse

Nom                                 Type                                                   Taille totale               Espace libre        C
    Fichiers enregistrés sur cet ordinateur

     Documents                        Dossier de fichiers

Documents de eddy...             Dossier de fichiers

    Lecteurs de disques dur

System XP U2 (C:)                Disque local                                                12,0 Go                      8,25 Go

     System WIN 10 U1 ...             Disque local                                                25,0 Go                      10,9 Go
     Data 2 Disk U1 (E:)              Disque local                                                 207 Go                      64,0 Go

     Data 1 Disk U2 (F:)              Disque local                                                 220 Go                      50,6 Go

    Périphériques utilisant des supports amovibles

     Lecteur CD (G:)                  Lecteur CD

     Lecteur CD (H:)                  Lecteur CD

    Autre

Panneau de configu...            Dossier système                                                                                        V

    Scanneurs et appareils photo

     Brother DCP-L2540...             Scanneur d'images
###############################################################
This text caption has been done using Snag-it 9.1.3 from the windows shown below:

And using this option from Snag-It 9.1.3:

As you can see only text from windows caption has been done. Snag-It 9.1.3 can use OCR (Optical Recognizing Characters) for this useful option.. which can take only text form any windows or tooltip baloon.

I believe a late point release of Version 11 removed that text capture capability.

Thanks for the clarification, Rick. I'm using v. 11.0.0 (build 207) and have never seen or used this 'Text from Window' feature.  I assume TechSmith removed it because it wasn't all that useful?  I think I'd just select, copy, paste in most instances, right?

LOL, only TechSmith can say for sure. I think I saw mention that it was a feature that wasn't worth maintaining. And there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth among the SnagItItes when the feature, it was crushed.

Smote it be... Rick :)

Rick, sometimes there are just too many options.  I offer as evidence the cereal aisle in American grocery stores.

Eddy, Good point.  I hadn't thought about possible copyright infringements.
