I am often working on a High Res screen and SnagIt keeps changing the DPI on me. I need to be able to set the pixels and DPI all in one shot.

Best way to do this is setup a image preset.

Start a new image preset and in the "Effects" field click on "Image Resolution" then click on the options gear and input your desired resolution.

Here I have one set for 300 DPI.

Next click on the drop down arrow in the effects field next to Image Resolution and click on
"Add another effect"

Click on the new effect field and select "Scale Image" then click on the option gear and
pick your poison.

Save the preset by clicking on the green "Save Preset button.

Use that preset now for your captures.

I did a capture with a 300 DPI preset and to check it in the editor click on the image size
and the bottom and open the Advance arrow.

Here it shows it captured at 300 DPI

I also checked it in Photoshop to verify.

I didn't use scale but you get the idea.

I have kept trying to get the software (latest version) to capture at 300 dpi by changing the image capture that comes with the install in the image - resolution - gear option set to 300 and it sticks but everytime I select the area I want for an image then do the capture and check the results, it still is only 96 dpi. This is so frustrating that it is not capturing my selected images at the 300 dpi. I can't capture my snagit screen to can't show you the settings. Not sure if there is a way to capture the snagit window but right now I am not able too.

I just solved my own issue #1 - the short cut hot key I use all the time must have been stored with the 96 dpi setting and reset the hotkey with the 300 dpi setting and it works. Issue #2 - if I chose the one click and select an area, then it still is not capturing at 300 dpi??? Is there a way to change the one click option to be 300 dpi? It would be so much easier to explain something if you could capture the editor some how, may have to install another software to do this for the snag it window. It looks like in this post, this author is capturing the screens??

By the way, thanks for this tip as to scaling!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The one click button "Giant Red Button" that you dock at the edge of the screen. Is dumb as a lamp post. You cannot program it to anything.
You can however, click saved preset from the dropdown menu.

That large menu you use to create custom pre-sets.Any settings applied in that area. will be used if you hit that Giant Red Button.

If you want to use SnagIt to capture itself. There's a setting in Preferences you need to uncheck.

Thanks for clarifying this - I wasted so much time trying to get the resolution set to 300 dpi. I hope at some point you will be able to adjust the settings for the "dumb" button on the side of your screen. :-)

The fasted way for me to capture something is just to use the hot key and not the dumb red button. Have a great day!
