Hello!

Unfortunately there is not a way to change the units displayed in the editor window to centimeters. However, there is a way to see the dimensions of an image in the corresponding centimeter measurements and then edit those dimensions. Just follow the two steps below. I'll be passing along the idea of being able to quickly switch units from the editor window.

  1. Go to the image tab > Resize > Resize Image

  2. In the dialog that appears you can view and edit the pixel and centimeter dimensions, along with a number of other units of measurement.

Thank you for your message and please let us know if you have any other questions or need more help!

Sorry for jumping on this request... but if Techsmith is going to consider this as a parameter to set in the editor, can we also consider allowing other units of measure.. like em, pt, pc for example. For those who work with css and stuff this would be handy. I know this might be considered picking details since em is pretty much the same as percentage.. but i figured, if you are already going to open the hood to do this work maybe you can throw in some other options.

The solution posted above did not work for me because, when I open the "Resize Image" window, the window does not contain some of the information shown above.

The "Resize Image" window shown above looks like this:

I don't get nearly as much information on the "Resize Image" dialog window that appears in my Snagit.  Here's what I get:

Is there a setting I should change to get the "Print Dimensions"  and "image Detail" info?

 Any help would be appreciated.

Try clicking the drop down at the top of that dialog where it says Units.

Thank you, Rick.  That drop down at the top of the dialog, does expose an option to change the dimensions of the figures in Snagit from pixels, to cm, or inches.  If you select "Percent", you can enlarge or shrink the image by the percentage you choose.  Much appreciated.

I have a related question about the "Use resampling" option in the same window.  According to one website I consulted, "Resizing an image using resampling, however, involves changing the pixel dimensions and will always introduce a loss in quality. "  I interpret that as suggesting that it's never a good idea to "Use resampling."  When is it a good idea to use resampling?

The page linked below is more geared toward Camtaisa but the information also applies to SnagIt.

My own view on this is that if I were greatly concerned about the quality and was needing to resize, I'd do it once with the option enabled, then look at it and do it again without the option and compare the two. I'd say it will depend on how much scaling is occurring.

Cheers... Rick :)
