I would like to see a change to the assumed file type in the Save/SaveAs dialog box. At present is assumes the last filetype used. Changing the file type makes the new one the new assumed file type. This is great when one wants to use the same file type but that is not always the case. Sometimes, when developing an image, I want to keep both GIF and SnagIt versions of the progressive backups I'm making. I'm constantly resetting the file type, which is a nuisance.

I would like to see a mechanism where the user can set the default file type for saves. To accommodate the current mechanism, there can be an option not to set the default which would mean using the same setting as last time.

This would mean I would always know what the setting will be (my default) and would only have to change the file type when I was saving the alternative format.
