Choosing Selection as the default focus?

I move a lot of objects around when using Snagit. If I choose Selection, then use that to move a Stamp, suddenly my focus has now been changed to Stamp instead of Selection, so to move another object I have to choose Selection again otherwise I am unintentionally placing a new stamp. I absolutely hate this. I absolutely adore Snagit as my favorite editing program, but if I could change one thing it would be to have a default of Selection and then when I want to add a new stamp or other function I would then be forced to choose those. Is there a setting I am missing? I have looked.

It sounds like you may have encountered a bug.
At least on my computer, the selection tool remains the selection tool for SnagIt 2018, 19 and 20.
What version are you using?

Lets make sure I understand the problem correctly?

When using the selection tool. The menu in the properties panel will change, based on whatever was just selected.
Which can be handy as you can change the properties of the selected item.

However, If I click in an open area.
Nothing will happen. I'm running 2020.0.1
So, I haven't updated in a while.

To me, this is normal behaviour.

If that's not what your experiencing.
If it were me, I would run a repair install.
It may change a few user settings to default.Like Start with Windows.
It will leave custom presets alone.
The image below is for SnagIt 2018, but the procedure is the same for 2020.

If that didn't fix it I would contact support.

I don't think this is a bug. The focus of the cursor changes to be whatever the last object you used it with and I wanted it to stay where I could move things around without it changing.  I do think I have solved the problem. I found there is a Move tool. Silly me. It does what I am looking for. I wanted to be able to move multiple objects of differing properties and not have to reselect the  Selection tool. I was stuck on the name of the "Selection" tool since what I wanted to do was select something. Thanks for the replies!

I use Photoshop more than SnagIt.
Theres an auto-select option/setting you can assign to the cursor.
Thats pretty close to the same terminology.

SnagIt 2018 was the first version to have a Move tool.
Before it was released, what you reported was how SnagIt worked.I hated it, LOL.
I loved the introduction of the move tool.

Thats why I mentioned versions 2018 through 2020.
I had forgotten its name, its just a cursor on the toolbar.
I use a lot of software, its not easy to remember some of these things at times.I'll remember this conversation for a while.
I'm getting older, so I'm not sure how long {:>)

I have tried to learn Photoshop, but find with Snagit & PowerPoint I could more intuitively do what I wanted to do. Thanks again for the advice & the helpful diagram!
