Closed Caption - eLearning

Are closed captions permanently on my videos or do people have the options to turn them on and off.  If I put in closed captions for a course I wish to create in Udemy, do people have the option to turn them off, if they don't want to see them?

closed captions can be turned on/off using a control on the SmartPlayer

there is an option to burn captions into the video if needed

Thanks kayakman, I definitely want people to have the option to turn captions on and off.  Captions can be real helpful for some and distracting for others.

Perhaps Kayakman can either confirm or deny my observation here. I was playing with this the other day and it seems that if I added captions and produced with the smart player, they never actually appeared in the resulting MP4. So if I played the MP4 (as I might if I uploaded them to udemy) then I'd never see them. This is because the caption data seems to be placed in a separate file that is used with the smart player.

But if I just produced an MP4, I saw no option to turn captions off and they ended up being burned into the video and the user would see them without any need to supply additional data.

Cheers... Rick :)

closed captions are scripted in 2 [almost identical] files; xxxconfig.xml, and configxml.js; closed captions are controlled by the player

if you want burned in captions for a MP4 only production, start a custom production, initially set it to use controller, go to options tab, use captions type dropdown to select burned in captions, go back and un-select controller; when you produce the MP4, captions will be burned in
