When using the "Split Caption" feature, it would be nice if the split would occur where the timeline marker is positioned (as seen in the attached image).

I'm not sure if this is what your looking for?

You can split a caption using the timeline "Split" feature.

Woah! I've never used that before. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I always right-click on the mouse and select Split Caption. If that button you just showed me splits it where the marker is, why doesn't the mouse-menu option do the same!?!

I have no idea why TechSmith captions work as they do?
There's nothing about creating captions in Camtasia, I would label as user friendly.

Every time I've tried working with them, I got frustrated by the workflow.

If I had to create captions on a regular basis, I would use another program to do it.

Thankfully, my audio is always from a script that I recorded. I use Camtasia's auto-caption to create the caption breaks (the breaks are about 90% accurate). Then, I copy and paste my script line by line.

Their Speech-to-Text feature. It can analyze existing audio and create the captions for you.

Over the years, I've made a number of tutorials that address working with captions

perhaps see https://www.screencast.com/users/cookbookplusman/folders/Camtasia%20Tutorials

search using keyword "caption" and check the titles

perhaps some might prove helpful?
