Combined image feature is a poor implementation for documentation

The new combined image feature is not a good implementation. I got the update and was really excited about this feature because I thought it would replace my use of Clarify. I thought that it was going to create a document with captions for the images so that I could easily go and add the steps for the individual screenshots. All this does is combine the images into one image  — not useful at all. I can already combine images. I need to send individual images already prepared with Heading and Descriptive text to a document.  Look at Clarify or StepShot for examples. I am sorry I paid for the update. It was not worth it.

Hi,

Adding steps is possible with the new Combine Images feature, using the Settings panel on the right. You can add a title, captions for each image, and add number steps. If there's additional functionality you'd like to see, let us know!

I do not want it to create an image of the three images. I want it to export out to Word or Pages and format it with the header and caption. I have used Screensteps and Clarify for years to do these things. Screensteps is priced beyond my need and Clarify has been deprecated.

In Clarify, I do the following:
  1. Create a document
  2. Take a screenshot
  3. The screenshot goes into the first screenshot field.
  4. Take another screenshot
  5. A new screenshot field is created with the new screenshot
  6. Continue taking screenshots until all are taken.
  7. Now go and add header text for each step and description of the steps or information for each step.
  8. Print it to Evernote, Word or PDF or Wordpress
  9. Save the file as a Clarify document
  10. Done
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in Clarify.

See how this is different from a combined image. When you have a process that has 15 steps, the image size is too great.  This is just not a feasible option for me.

If you want more information, please let me know.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed response! We do want to continue making improvements to the combine images feature, so we'll see if there's something we can do to make this workflow easier.

Yes - I need to document 20+ steps for one process.  I like the auto numbering and drag and drop ordering, but need to dump the series onto a document to convert to a PDF.  Thanks for commenting.

Hi, I also would find it better if you could combine the images into a Word text table with two columns: 1 column the image, 2 column an empty text field for comments.
Futher adjustments of the document can then be done in Word

Hi terryhatmaker,

I'm sorry you are not happy with the latest version of Snagit. Did you actually purchase Snagit, or did you install the 30 day trial and have found you can not use the feature you desired?

If you did purchase, you can go here to see about getting a refund:
https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/115007350548#16

We don't want ANYONE to be disappointed with their purchase, this is why we encourage people to download the TRIAL version BEFORE they purchase to ensure it's what they need.
Again, we have a 30 day guarantee if you are not happy with your purchase.
