convert snag files from 8 to 11

We just updated from Snagit 8 to 11. When we open snag files (stored with Snagit 8) objects are missing: text objects and O-shaped objects, created with Snagit 8. How can I recover all objects?

Sorry that you are losing these objects in the version update from 8 to 11.

Each version of Snagit has tweaked the snag file format slightly to support new functionality and when we do this we try to make sure that we don't lose anything from the older format,  so going from Snagit 8 to V9 should be okay( no data lost ),  9 to 10, 10 to 11, etc....   In most cases, 2 or 3 major version jumps should work okay also but it does sound like you have a case where it doesn't .

So this would be one way to make sure that all of the objects are kept :
- Uninstall Snagit 11, then install the latest versions of Snagit 9,  Snagit 10( these are archived on the TechSmith site ), and then finally install Snagit 11 again .

- Open up each Snagit 8 SNAG file in Snagit 9, save it out, then do the same in Snagit 10,  Then hopefully the SNAG files will open up in Snagit 11 just fine.

- There might be a shortcut but you would have to find it through experimentation,  For example you might be able to open the file in Snagit 9, save it out and then it will open fine in Snagit 11, no need to go through Snagit 10.   I would suspect the update from 8 to 9 being the most critical one but I can't give any guarantee on that.

Please let us know if this doesn't recover the data for you, contact our direct tech support at  so we can look more closely to see what is happening.

Hi Adam!
Thank you for replying quickly! The work around seems to be more work than a new screenshot with new labels. We have to run more tests how to change our working procedure. We don't have time since start of 2014 for this.
In the meantime I send you a snag file for testing.
