Copy text from a notebook/text document to the TEXT function

Hello,

I can not in any way, with the mouse or keyboard shortcuts (CTRL C / CTRL V) copy text from a notebook or other text document.
The PASTE function in the context menu is "cold".
Maybe one of the reasons is that when I press CTRL, the program automatically calls me a color picker?

Sincerely,
Dariusz Pocztowski

Make sure the tool selected in the toolbar is Text Or a Text Callout. "Whichever tool you are using to create text"

If you have Shape for example selected. Hitting Ctrl will bring up the color picker.

Unfortunately, I didn't understand anything this time. :(
- I understood what you wrote, but I do not understand how it is to help me, because I think I do just as you show.
For convenience of discussion, let's talk only about the TEXT tool.

20 years in many applications without problems, intuitively, without any training I add text copied anywhere in the graphic.

I don't understand why it is "cold" in the PASTE context menu.

If you open say, Windows Notepad, are you able to paste there? If not, there's the issue. You don't actually have text in your clipboard. But if you DO see text pasted in Notepad, it would mean that possibly there is a bug, OR maybe you aren't really in text edit mode. But your image sure looks like you are in text edit mode.

I copy text in all pages to and from a notebook, text documents, to other graphics programs, to and from Twitter, Facebook, email, etc.

If you do as I show, I don't know what else to tell you? Other than possibly contacting support.

I think you are seeing what I would consider a bug. When you are in text editing mode in the text tool and you choose to right-click, it seems to remove focus from the text editing mode and the object goes into move mode. Thus, the paste action isn't proper and paste isn't enabled.

The only suggestion I would have here is to use the keyboard shortcuts to paste (Ctrl+V or Shift+Insert) and not try and use the right-click to paste.

Yes, it worked that way, but it is a terrible solution for me. :(

There is also such a thing that when I have already copied this way the text on graphics in SNAGIT in the text editing mode, then I easily copy it with the mouse (from SNAGIT), duplicate, paste below, etc. - BUT ONLY ON THE SAME GRAPHICS .
When I choose a new photo, I can't do it anymore - PASTE is "cold" again.
"Shift + Insert" remembers what I copied to the original photo and in this way I can paste this text.

I am writing about it, because maybe something will tell you and you will write something to me before I contact the technical department.

Note also that Ctrl+V should work the same. For me, Shift+Insert is a pain to achieve while Ctrl+V is much simpler.

I only mentioned Shift+Insert for the sake of completeness. ;)

Oh, and by all means, do report the issue to TechSmith!

RICK, at the beginning of the topic I wrote: "I can not in any way, with the mouse or keyboard shortcuts (CTRL C / CTRL V)"
() Maybe one of the reasons is that when I press CTRL, the program automatically calls me a color picker?

JOE: "Hitting Ctrl will bring up the color picker.

The program doesn't allow me to use the CTRL + () combination, because as soon as I press CTRL, the color picker automatically turns on and that's why I said "Shift + Insert" works for me.

Sure, the cursor changes to be a color picker, but what happens if you continue holding the Ctrl key and press V?

The cursor changes to a color picker for me as well, but pressing the V key does actually paste the text.

I've tried hygienically several times before - CTRL + C, then CTRL + V (waiting) and nothing.
I even checked if I was writing by accident in white on a white background and therefore I can't see.

I'd say that contacting support is likely your best bet on this. Perhaps they will initiate a screen share session and observe first hand what is happening on your PC.

Note that this is pure speculation on my part. I have no clue if they would do that or not. But it certainly sounds like something they would want to observe first hand.

Another thing you might try would be to reinstall SnagIt. But I have my doubts as to whether it would actually fix any issues. But it certainly won't hurt to try.

Hi Dariusz ,

If I understood correctly, you are losing focus of the text box and CTRL+V or right clicking and selecting PASTE is not working.

Losing the focus of the text box is most likely switching the action to a move tool.

In order to return focus to the text box, you just need to double click it and you will notice the caret blinking, which means you are now able to paste the content of your clipboard, and write to the text box again.

Let me know if that is the workflow that you are running into.

Best,
Ania
