Copy FTP/URL to clipboard

As above really..
Is there any option of copying the URL of a file you have just uploaded to an FTP server?

e.g. I want to upload 'image.jpg' to 'ftp://mywebsite.com/images/image.jpg' and on upload completion I want 'http://www.mywebsite.com/images/image...' to be copied to my clipboard so I can quickly share the link. I found this option in a similar program but I can't seem to find the option for it in SnagIt or it doesn't exist.

Any ideas? Thanks

I did some checking and there doesn't seem to be a way to copy the URL. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'd like to change this into a feature request. In addition, could the other program you're thinking of be Jing by chance? Jing does copy the URL.

Is this feature already in snagit version 11 yet?

I'm a Jing pro user but sadly it won't be supported by next year and I'm told to switch to Snagit which I just purchased my copy

Hi,
We are working to improve the FTP functionality in Snagit. Currently, it's true that it works differently than in Jing.

Count me in. I use this one everyday with Jing. Love Snagit but wish it has this feature!

Gday TechSmith and users

When I make a screencast video with Snagit, then output via FTP, it successfully uploads but I have no link in the clipboard. Is there any way to obtain that functionality (just as it does in JING?) so I can simply paste the URL link to the file?

Clipboard URL when video output to FTP server.

Been waiting for this function. If they could do it in Jing why not for snagit?

This is amazing - more than a year int he making - come on Snagit - you seem packed full of silly frills like advanced image effects when we want to share what we've CAPTURED AND QUICK - this is just silly. I can't believe I paid for this whilst you ditched Jing.

Well this has been here for a year so I take it it's not getting implemented? I would consider buying Snagit with this feature but not without.

I would also consider buying Snagit with this feature, am I supossed to enter FileZilla browse to the folder where my images are being uploaded and get the link from there? If you already know the file name, the path, why not add a function to the profile to ger the link directly into keyboard so we can paste for example in Wordpress. Thanks!

What is a purpose of this feedback channel ? At least you should answer to these questions. I HAVE BEEN WAITTING THIS FEATURE OVER 3 YEARS NOW. Could you please tell us why you cannot add this simple but very, very important feature to this product ?

I would really like to move from Jing as this has so many other features I want.  However, the FTP URL copy is a MUST.  What about powershell integration?  If that is possible, then I could call a script to take care of this.

Me too.. or Me 114th??!!
Have an entire department that would purchase and use if somehow the ftp upload from Snagit could be worked like the custom code in Jing.  We need the page scrolling and enhanced editing with Snagit.   Have 148 users!  That's 148 licenses for Snagit..

Dont you see. Snagit support is a joke. Years are their possible customers crying to get this simple "copy url to clipbooard" function but NO. THET DO NOT LISTEN. Veeery frustrating to see so badly runned company and management. As said a joke.

It's fascinating from my standpoint.
They give you a much needed feature for FREE. Then turn their backs on profit. Amazing the more I think it over.

It is strange...  they used to completely own this category.. I remember using the program personally way back when windows launched.. Two issues really.
  1. Techsmith listening to their paying customers.
  2. The complexity with implementing the feature.
Since they developed JING, there is zero reason why the technical issues exist.   So then it comes down to customer input.  Since we started using JING, we started asking for this feature.. don't know how ling ago that was..

And they have spent dollars on the program, looks cool and many new features have been introduced and evolved.. Don't think we use any of them but others may.  Why this request has gone no where is bazarr.  Every time they release a new versions, we download a trial and take a look.. and nope not here.  I don't get it.

If anyone knows of a program that will do that, PLEASE post it.  We keep thing some kind of Hotkey or Clipboard [program is out there somewhere that can take a URL within the clipboard and add the embed code around it..

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled In Jing I could create videos and upload to my FTP account, but lose that option ....

In Jing I could create videos and upload to my FTP account and then allow my viewers to see my video with my own message (and not marketing someone elses products):

Example:
http://tvcnet.net/images/tutorials/in...

With Snagit I've lost this benefit and now have to use screencast with all this promotion and junk:
http://www.screencast.com/t/7kObLiYf20o

So how can I get the functionality of Jing screen capture and presentation wise?

Thanks!

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Snagit ftp url to the clipboard.

When I post a picture (SnagIT) using a FTP profile the application automatically creates the url and sends the file. It would be nice feature if that created URL would go automatically to the clipboard so I can just paste it where I need to.

All the SnagIT users what I know are also asking this feature !

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Snagit Editor SFTP/FTP Button, save url to Clipboard. Save FTP settings.

In the Snagit Editor there is a button "FTP" but you can not save the settings. (nor does it support sftp, or copy to clipboard). I know Jing support it but Jing does not have a powerful editor like snagit. Am I missing how to do (s)FTP and profiles for a button in snagit editor ?

I don't want to use a snagit profile as that ftp's the file instantly as it gets captured.. I want to edit it First..

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Jing copied ftp name to clipboard, SnagIt (most recent version) does not. This SU....

Jing always gave you the name of the file, pasted to the clipboard when you ftp'd an image to a site.

SnagIt does not do this, and then you have to go login to the server to figure out what name it assigned to the image

Your support staff said this "Thank you for your feedback regarding TechSmith's SnagIt software! We do not currently support capturing the FTP address automatically in your clipboard in SnagIt 11. I think this is a really good suggestion and I'd recommend you share it with our developers" So here it is. This was a great feature in Jing that should be continued on into SnagIt

Another long time user searching for the same solution. I want to send a capture to an ftp server and then have the filename/path copied to the clipboard.

I'd like to do a screensnap and then email a client with the URL. Surely not too hard?

The way to do this is to create a button for FTP.  Preferences > Customize Buttons > New > FTP
Within the settings for the button, add your FTP info.  Below the FTP info, select "Custom code" for the clipboard contents. Then enter the URL for where you entered the FTP info to upload.  In other words, add the path to the directory in your FTP info.  In my case, I am uploading to a directory named "/jing".  Then add the [filename] variable at the end after the trailing slash.  I entered the same path for both image and video to keep it simple.

@Jeff2 - that relates to JING.  Jing, of course, worked splendidly, until it was bought and brought down by Snagit. Who STILL haven't been able to replicate that superb, yet simple feature of Jing.

I need this feature. Can you please implement copy url to clipboard after ftp file upload.
Better file naming support for FTP would be nice too.

This topic is 4 years old. 4 years your users are asking you for a must-have feature. Nothing was done yet. Way to go, Techsmith!
