Copying annotation without flattening

I have been using SnagIt for years. But something changed recently with copy and paste. It seems whenever I copy an annotation (Text, stamp, callout, arrow, etc) It is now pasted them flattened with the background of whatever they were sitting on. Like the PhotoShop copy flattened command. I rarely want that. How do I change this setting so I can reuse annotations without them becomming flattened? Thank you.

If you look at Editor > Editor Preferences > Advanced tab, I'd be willing to bet you have the option for flattening pasted images enabled. Try clearing it.

Got very excited when I saw your reply, but sadly this was unchecked for me. Yet it still pastes flattened. (BTW, how did you get SnagIt to snag itself???)

I'm on 2020. I tried restarting it. No luck.

Any chance it started since the May 12 update? Version 2020.1.2

I'm still running 2020.0.1
I can't test for a bug as a result.
I don't allow SnagIt to update itself.
Over the years I've adopted a "If it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude with updates.
Unfortunately , TechSmith manages to breaks things as well as fix things on occasion.
So I'm never in a rush to update.

If it were me, I would attempt a repair install. Windows is getting pretty efficient these days.So its a long shot.
Before Win 10, a repair install fixed many errors like yours. Not so much anymore.

This image below is 2019, the procedure is the same for 2020.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm on 2020.1.2
Tried your suggestion on the repair, no help. Still only pasting flattened.
I was on SnagIt 11 for years and only reluctantly upgraded about a year ago. I am still frustrated by some of the things that were possible before and are not now. Like browsing a folder in the editor. And this issue. But it seems this issue is probably a bug on my end. I should probably do a clean install, but I am in the middle of a project right now and it is not a good time to do that. So I will probably suffer through for now.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

This is interesting -- the "Automatically flatten pasted images" only applies to, literally, pasted images. It would never flatten other annotations like stamps, etc.
I am not even sure how it would be possible for that to happen, but it is happening to you. Are you doing anything besides a simple Ctrl+C on a selected annotation and then Ctrl+V that object afterwards? If you undo (Ctrl+Z) after the paste does the newly added object go away completely? Maybe it just unflattens (such that you would have to undo a second time to make the new object be undone)?
There must be something unique about the steps you are doing..

So typical. I was setting up to record a video of what I was seeing, and wouldn't you know... it now no longer does that... I have NO idea what changed. But for the moment, it seems to be working correctly. If this changes, I will pay CLOSE attention to what I am doing and report back (hopefully with video). Thanks for all the suggestions and help. Sorry for the false alarm.
