I was using Snagit and then it started to close as soon as the editor opened.  I would take a capture and as soon as editor opened I got a message that Snagit closed unexpectedly and did I want to send in a report.  I did this 4 to 6 times and then turned off my computer and tried again but same thing.  Then I thought I would just download again and reinstall on my computer without even removing my existing application.  Nothing happened.  Tried agin and then it seemed to disappear so I rebooted my computer again.  When I tried to open it again nothing so I decide to move the application to trash and reinstall again now nothing happens, I can't reinstall nothing happens.  I'm totally without Snagint and don't know what to do next.

Had the same thing happen to me a couple weeks ago after updating Mojave. In the system library preferences, I found that I had both the 2018 and 2019 plist files. I deleted the 2018, rebooted the Mac and all was well after that.

Was SO happy I found your fixt and just tried it -  .... unfortunately it didn't work :-(
I've had Mojave for awhile, no issues and have been using the latest Snagit version: 2019.1.2 (94030) since it was released (about a week ago - more/less).

I can't even roll back to the previous version because it crashes immediately upon opening and so can't do it through the app itself. Frustrating - considering I needed it to finish up a client project that I need to turn over tomorrow.

Need to find out a (quick) 'get-around' to do a rollback to previous version 'outside' of the app, any suggestions? I have the version from Techsmith (not via the App Store) - just have to look.

This was really unexpected so my brain needs to shift gears!  I 'forgot' -- that sometimes it is better not to update a version immediately unless it has to do w/some security vulnerability. Lesson relearned.

Appreciate any suggestions! :-)

I'd recommend going ahead and opening a ticket. What I had you do was wipe out the preferences which caused Snagit to build a new preferences file when you restarted. Prior to macOS X, that was the most common fix for all kinds of software misbehavior.  :)

Also, by any chance, do you have Path Finder on your Mac? Several versions back, there was a conflict with Path Finder if it was running in the background (e.g., not fully quit) upon Snagit startup. A subsequent version took care of that but sometimes old problems become new problems.

Hi ... I don’t have Pathfinder...but what I did was completely uninstall Snagit, ‘cleaned up’, restarted. Then downloaded snagit again, reinstalled, and crossed my fingers. It’s worked ... so far. (I had also opened a ticket and sent a copy of the crash report ... its being looked into. Hope it’s fixed. :-)

I tried deleting all the .plist files I could find that had Snagit or Techsmith in the file name but nothing worked Finally restored an old version about a month old and it worked today. Now I’m afraid to install any updates. I will try to talk to Techsmith because I’m sure I’m not the only one having this problem. Didn’t even loose my screen captures I made before Snagit 2019 crashed.

Hi,

Sorry about the crashes. We are working on a fix, but in the mean time, you can open a ticket with our Tech Support to get this fixed for 2019.1.2 or roll back to 2019.1.1

From your reply it sounds like it’s a problem more than 1 person has experienced. I did a restore using Time Machine and it seems to be working but what happens if it automatically updates? Will you notify my when you have the fix? Will it be a new version like 2019.1.3?

You can turn off autoupdates in Snagit's general preferences. I will post here once our update is available, it will either be a 2019.1.3 or we might patch 2019.1.2 so we can do it a little sooner.

Hi,

If you're running into constant crashes with 2019.1.2, we've patched that version with a fix for that crash. If you're able to open Snagit, it will show up when you check for updates. If not, you can download it directly from here https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/
