Create new preset with fixed region in 2018 freezes when clicking on select region button

I had a great need for presets to set up an image fixed region area that you have to use to do captures daily by setting the W x H and X and Y Positions. To get the X and Y position you would need to click the select region button, but when you do this, the monitor dims and nothing happens, and if you click somewhere again the software crashes. I reported this as a ticket and hope it gets fixed soon. I should create a new ticket on this issue here on this website, and will do that now.

I can click the select region button.  The screen dims but I get the selectors and the software doesn't crash.  Seems to me you did the right thing by opening a support ticket

Thanks for your feedback, I hope to see if others have the same issue. Will try it again and see if the waiting goes on for a long time again. I just tried it with an open adobe reader and it crashes, when I did it on this website page, it worked fine, when on a open MS Word 16 it crashes - doesn't seem to like capturing a software open window.

Hi

I tried to reproduce your error but here all seems to work?

My specifications:

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit,  Version: 1709, build 16299.19
Screen: LG 34" HDMI-connection
Screen resolution: 3440 x 1440
SnagIt 2018.0.0, 64 bit, Build 462

Hereby a picture of the three steps I've made to cut a logo out of my screen with [Ctrl]+[F10]

I made some tests in Internet Explorer 11, Google Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Word 2016

I tried your steps and it still dims the screen (monitor) and does nothing. If I select the esc button it won't crash, but if I select the Select Region button, it dims the screen and if I move my cursor and click somewhere the program crashes.

Seems this is still not fixed. With me, when setting the region, nothing happens for a few seconds and then SnagIt simply crashes and disappears from the taskbar. Maybe..just maybe(!) it has something to do with .NET ??

FWIW . . .

From what I learned this is still a bug. Probably one is working on a solution.

FWIW: the recommended workaround that indeed worked for me was as follows:

"
The best workaround right now is to create the preset from the main capture window, and then choose New preset from current settings, instead of choosing New Preset and setting it up from there.
"

Maybe you could give that a try. No guarantees, but as said, it worked for me: no crashes.
