Creating a click-by-click demo video using SmartFocus to follow the mouse.

I am trying to use the SmartFocus and/or the SmartFocus at Time animations to create a video where the view follows the mouse as I click through few screens. Most of the information I find on this site, and YouTube, is ancient how-to's for the Windows version, or uses the "pan-and-scan" feature, which is apparently explicitly excluded from the Mac version...

SmartFocus at Time will zoom in on the first click, then stay zoomed in even when there are additional clicks. The view port is zoomed in so you can't see where the mouse goes.

When I try to use just SmartFocus, by dragging and dropping the animation on to the clip, I get this unhelpful error message...

"SmartFocus was unable to generate any animations.  The recording duration may be too short to apply any SmartFocus animations."

The duration "may be too short" ... Ok, so how long should a clip be? Mine is almost 20 seconds long. If the clip length issue, then what else might be wrong?

It sounds like you would be better using Custom Animations to manually zoom and pan around the screen following the cursor. This tutorial may help:
