Cropping objects? No way?

Hello,
I am new to work with SnagIt. I am looking for a way to crop an object in the editor. Am I missing something? Even if I crop an document and put it into an other document, the already cropped image appears uncropped again.

It would be helpful if you were able to tell us exactly how you are trying to crop at the moment.

Hello, by selecting the object and looking how I could crop it with the handles, but I only can resize and distort, but not crop.

You need to make sure you choose the crop tool from the menu first.  This guide is still fairly accurate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4CaLB-5kW4&t=169s

Hi Matthew

I suspect that CB Crew has perhaps dropped a second image atop the first and perhaps wants to crop the floating image on the canvas. And the crop tool does not work for that. It only works for the overall canvas. ;)

Cheers... Rick :)

@Rick, thank you. You brought it to the point. I want to crop the second image atop, not the main image.

Hi, is there still no solution how to crop a floating image? Is there really no way to insert a second image and crop it? Only resize, rotate etc.?

If you are using Snagit 2019 or 2020 with the use of a placeholder from a image template you can do a crop of a image that's on the canvas.

Here's how

Correct me if I am wrong Dubie, but I think you need access to Drop Zones for your snazzy workaround to work and we didn't introduce those until Snagit 2020.

@Dubie!
Thank you very much for the hint with the placeholder. Works fine.
I hope to place a placeholder or make floating images croppable would be come soon in one of the next versions of Snagit.

Tremendous! A  poor man's Photoshop?!?

I only have one question: I'm using 2019.1.6 on Windows and don't see any template related anything available to me. I understood (mistakenly?) that templates were introduced in 2020. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

@ehorwitz, in 2019 we introduced "Combine Images", which was the precursor to templates. The idea of "drop zones" (the placeholder that Dubie utilizes in his video) didn't exist until we introduced Templates in Snagit 2020.
