CS 2019 disaster

CS 2019 is a disaster. I have made some projects with CS 2019 and often the pointer on the timeline runs in slow motion. Rendering compared with 2018 is much slower. But here is the disaster. A project made in v. 2019 will NOT open in 2018.

projects made with newer versions are not supposed to open in older versions

or did you mean the other way around?

Many programmes (like MS Office) can save in previous versions. Techsmith could learn something here. The Save As function in CS does NOT give you the option of saving in prev. versions. Not very clever made.

as further explanation, new versions of Camtasia usually have functionality not found in earlier versions, so down-converting a project would result in the elimination of any edits that involved the new feature

MS office has some pretty basic functionality overall. It doesn't really evolve much over time.
A WORD document is a WORD document. Nothing glamorous or sexy. It follows basic rules.
It's pretty easy to open new documents in older versions as a result.

Camtasia 2019 introduced  a form of character spacing and leading for text with callouts. They described it as. Adjust vertical and horizontal text spacing in annotations. With the auto resizing callouts  and text feature, it's not actually a true text editing capability per-say, because words will rearrange themselves at will.Ignoring what you're actually trying to Space Out/Create/Type/Call it what you will. But that's another story.

If you add a block of text and modify it in Camtasia 2019. I'm not saying this look is ideal, it's just an example. If this is what you were after. That's what you're after.

The font size above is supposed to be 64. But it shrank due to vertical and horizontal spacing. It still says 64 in the properties panel. So the project would be saved as font size 64. The paragraph style is centered.

Heres what that text looks like in Camtasia 2018.Without the feature. Copied and pasted in, so lets assume this is what you would get.

Right off the bat, the project is altered from the original. This is just a basic example.

Camtasia versions are not created the same under the hood. Just like different versions of Windows.Theres a reason projects are updated to be compatible with newer versions, and not the other way around.

TechSmith can make allowances for changes in the program moving forward. Allowing older functionality to mesh with the new.
However, trying to program something as complex as a video editor to be backwards compatible. Doesn't make much sense.

I prefer the Legacy Callouts. I'm still mad, frustrated, and not happy TechSmith eliminated them.

Why did they do it? They were problematic starting with Camtasia 9. They didn't update well from Camtasia 8 and had issues.TechSmith never fixed what was broken. So they tossed them in a trashcan instead.

Theres the perfect example "In my Opinion". Just because something works in one version, doesn't mean it will work in another. On Orange is not always an Orange when dealing with software.

Backwards compatibility is not even a realistic goal in the video editing world. That's why no one offers it. Or even tries to.

Regards,Joe

For future reference. What exactly did you find confusing about my explanation?

So much so you felt the need to create a video to show exactly what I just demonstrated.

What was the .....for further clarification covering?

your post had nothing to do with it

my second post above had stated the general issue, but I had provided no explicit details; so I made the example screencast to reinforce my statement; I elected to use the same scenario you did for continuity purposes
