Thanks Joe!
That's right- Jing will not be updated, but our new, free, more performant, screen & video solution is in the works as seen in the link above.

Just visit ScreenCast.com and click the button in the upper right corner of the browser.

THanks Rick. That's right, do that, for now.
Direct downloads of the app are coming soon, but not ready yet. We're trying to take feedback into account as fast as possible.

Just updated to Catalina and I wasn't able to find TechSmith Capture for mac. What a bad business decision this was. I'm sure so many users will go and start using other capture apps because of this.

Why be such a crybaby? You've gotten an awesome, free product for years. Just use the free version of Snagit or buy it.
Bitch, bitch, bitch.

Actually, I paid for the pro version back in 2010/2011 sometime, but feel free to be rude to a new user, no problem

There is just the free trial of Snagit.

I'm sorry this transition is frustrating, where Jing is not working on the new release of Catalina, but Capture (which does work on Catalina) does not have all of needed features yet.
As of this writing, TechSmith Capture:
  • works on Catalina
  • Has screen capture (screenshots)
  • Has video capture
  • Has webcam capture
Image annotations (arrow, rectangle, highlighter, callout) are coming soon.

are you guys going to make it as easy as Jing is/was? Cause that was the selling point for a lot of us!

Ease of use it definitely a high priority. Hearing what our (broad!) userbase thinks made Jing easy to use is helpful.

LightShot works on Catalina, similar to what JIMG was for capture, just not as robust.

Yes, I'm using LighShot app, works fine for screen captures and to share the link.

Bring back jing. Snagit is a bloated piece of crap. Consumes x10 memory and more cpu than jing did.

I'm actually delaying my upgrade to MacOS Catalina, just because it does not support Jing! But I can't hold out much longer... :(

TechSmith Capture, our replacement for Jing, is being updated constantly and works with Catalina. For the moment, the best way too get it is to go to www.screencast.com and download it as part of the "Launch Recorder" feature in the upper right.

Soon, we'll have a better landing page and direct download available, but I don't have anywhere to point you at yet for that, sorry.

I'm using what is now called TechSmith Capture, but the functionality is far worse than what Jing used to be. If you keep the same features as Jing with upgrades, I'm sure the user base will appreciate it.

As of right now, I have to open the app separately, then keep it in an active window, and then either press the assigned hotkey or click the big red button to make one simple screenshot. It is proving to be more work than the default Mac OS screenshot.

There is an update coming to the Mac version on April 7 that changes it so it is not stuck "always on top" anymore. This was added when the app could not be run "stand-alone", that is, it could only be launched as a video recorder from Screencast. Now that you can just install and run it (like Jing) we are removing that weird behavior. This release will also let you customize your hotkey.
