How do I highlight the cursor and dim the background whilst recording a video in SnagIt?

Hi all - I changed this from a question to an idea and will merge a number of other threads into it so we can keep the conversation in one place.
As has been noted, Camtasia gives a ton of control and choice for animating and highlighting cursor clicks, keystrokes, and more (see details for Win and Mac). It also keeps the cursor as a separate layer so these effects can be customized (or removed entirely) during editing. Snagit, on the other hand, creates a ready-to-share video in real time...so any effects like cursor highlighting would be "burned in" or permanent in your video. My questions for the folks who are requesting this feature:

- Would permanent cursor/click highlights be useful to you (no ability edit them later, either in Snagit or in Camtasia)?

in answer to your questions:
1. Yes that would be very, very useful (ability to edit them later is not really a requirement for me);
2. Yes, in fact I am looking for a tool to be able to do that for me. It would be very useful for me if Snagit is going to support cursor and mouse pointer movement highlighting and mouse button click highlighting, during video recording.

1. Yes would be very useful, as for our company it is important that developers are clear on which link, function was clicked on by our QA people when looking at bug reproduction videos
Yes please! I just ordered Snagit for my team for creating tutorials for teachers and students, and I thought mouse click highlights was an included option. Permanent is what I was expecting for Snagit, with the ability to toggle on/off. I was very disappointed to learn that this feature isn't already included. If I had know, I wouldn't have chosen Snagit.
I am a math professor and use Camtasia to record lecture and example videos on my Microsoft Surface. But I recently started using Snagit because Camtasia takes forever to upload to YouTube. The biggest thing I miss in Snagit is that, even when I choose to "capture cursor", it only shows the mouse cursor. It doesn't show the pen movements. (Well, I guess technically in some programs it shows it, but it's just a tiny little speck that you wouldn't see unless you were really looking for it.)
In Camtasia, we have the option to choose which cursor we want to display, so whether I am using the mouse or the pen, my students see a visible arrow. It would be great if we could pick a cursor to display in Snagit. But as a backup, I would accept the cursor being highlighted. Really, we just need something to show the pen when gesturing while inking. (We do a lot of "look up here where I showed you this formula... now I'm going to use that formula" type of thing. So the gesturing is important.)

It would be great to have a toggle on and off highlighter even if it isn't editable later (in Snagit)

That's just what I am looking for - too bad I have to run 2 programs now (Snagit and Pointerfocus) - would be great if Snagit could have this feature built-in! :)
In answer to your two questions, the answer is YES. SnagIt is great/easy/fast for short-form videos (animated gifs) and having a highlighted cursor (with toggle on/off) would be of great value for me as a producer and to users (viewers of my videos) so they can better track a dark cursor amid dark(er) backgrounds.
