Custom Assets work folders for Images, Voice Narration, and Video per project.

Since the days of Camtasia 8 and before I could choose the location where the camrec file was placed after recording, now in Camtasia 9 it assumes  you want all project videos located in the same location on the same drive in which Camtasia is recorded on, this in itself is not a good idea.  Although you can change the target audio folder this is a global setting and offers no choice per project.

Each project should allow a setup for targeted work folders such as Images, Voice Narration, and Video files.  This would make it easy to archive a project with its assets and locate all assets to the same project folder on a choosen HD that not being on the same drive in which Camtasa is recorded on.

This also means than when doing Voice Narration camtasia does not keep asking for a location to save the file.  When a image or other media is dropped into the scene it should ask if a copy of these files should be added to the project directory set.

Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan, just in case you are unaware - you can change the settings so that when you record your screen it performs similar to C8 e.g. it will ask you for a file name: You can also view the Preview like C8 too if you wish.

Go to Recorder settings:

Tools>Options>General>File Options-select Ask for file name

Tools>Options>Program>-uncheck Hide Preview

With regards to the management of all the assets, I created a Video Projects folder with sub folders for Audio, Media, Project, Backup, Produced and Documents, I then copy and paste this folder and rename the Project Folder for each project. This way I keep all the relevant project files together.

I hope this helps.

You beat me to it Jayne, I was going to post pretty much the same solution, which I learned from Lon Naylor. Great help though, I hope Daniel sees it.

Thanks for your reply Jayne.  This is the workflow that iv been following for years until Camtasia 9 came, thanks for pointing out how to make camtasia ask where to save the camrec files, dont know how I missed that.

Only thing I still wish is that in the settings I could define a folder for Voice Narration so it stops asking me to save a file every time I record a clip.  I do like how I can now re do a Narration recording, but a automatic prefix file name and save would be great for voice Narration.  As for auto camrec saving, I like it but with the option to set it on a  per project basis.

I am not seeing where in Camtesia I can do this...

Go to Recorder settings:
Tools>Options>General>File Options-select Ask for file name
Tools>Options>Program>-uncheck Hide Preview

Where are "Recorder settings".  I didn't see them in Camtesia or the Screen Recorder application.

Joe posted while I was making this quick response tutorial; since it's already made and hosted, I'll offer it anyway for what it's worth ...
