I've really tried to save customisations to my callouts and other things to the relevant sections, but I cannot find a way to do it as yet. If there is a way - I'd be grateful for help.
If there is no easy way to do what I'm asking then it's probably an idea for development.
I'm about to move to the Mac to use Screenflow- Prefer PC and have always loved and promoted Camtasia, but this feature is worth this much to us. It easily doubles production time on a single video with a lot of callouts.
When I create a callout a single is added because only one character is required to preserve formatting. When the callout is added to the timeline new text can be added before or after the character and then delete that character. I have not tried using a space but, if that fails, a non-breaking space should work preventing the placeholder character from having to be deleted.
In addition, a callout that is going to be used multiple times is copied to the end of a track. To add the callout at the play head I simply scroll to the end, select the callout, copy it, paste it. You are immediately taken back to the playhead.
Is it possible to share libraries? This way, with a distributed team, we can all maintain the same look.
And Camtasia team- THANK YOU for opacity on callouts! sexy at 85% instead of solid black. :)
Should be possible to have some sort of default config file for setting this up - within the bounds of the application. This should include assets for call-outs and captions (Font, font size, background colour, line colour, drop shadow (yes/no) fade in and fade out)
As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the first, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.
In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!
Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!
If you'd like to have a conversation about your workflow with callouts and how we can make it better, you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Name 3 feature requests TechSmith has adopted into Camtasia since they started the feature request roundup practically one year ago.
Now name 3 features requests adopted including SnagIt.
Feature Request Round-Up is a washout. That or it's TechSmith running culvert research for features for future releases.
What you don't get for voting is new features. You get promising expectations at best.
I even understand their needs to consolidate their financial gains after the huge expense of releasing a great upgrade like v 9. So, I can understand a "new feature" update gap.
But people want productivity gains. It has several built-in clumsy, time-eating features that need to be streamlined. No voting needed.
It is particularly disturbing when they have the technology working in their Mac edition, as in this case, but are dragging their feet--nearly a year--in making it work in the Windows version.
Sadly, I agree, Johnny, that "Feature Request" is a public relations smokescreen. There is no steady feature/functionality progress, so it appears to be something designed to placate customers, not trigger software improvements.
