Custom hotkeys for tools

(This idea is something we’ve heard from customers over time from several of our sources of feedback. We’re posting it here to gauge how well this fits our users’ needs. So please let us know what you think.)

Often there is a need to quickly jump between tools. And you don't always want to have to take your hands off your keyboard or hunt for the location of the tool with your mouse. So one suggestion we've heard (possible with the Ribbon a couple years ago) would be to have the ability to associate any menu command that can go on the toolbar with a custom keyboard shortcut. Users would be able to assign it themselves.

Why don't we keep it simple. There is so much to do  and this sounds fairly straight forward, if I understand correcctly.

Make them configurable so we can set our own hotkeys?

If we do this, yep, that'd be the idea, users could configure their own hotkeys for specific functions.

LOVE THIS IDEA!!!!  if we can't have a lot more tools exposed on the surface, this would save a lot of time!!!

Are there any specific functions that aren't in the menus that you all would like to see?

e.g., I've heard people want a "Save to PNG" hotkey, but that isn't in the menus right now.

In the old quick access bar you could add everything that snagit would do. My favorites were the various "save as" functions such as the save as PNG and at one point, save as PDF. I can't remember all  as I used as it has been years and the needs have changed but even now the quick access bar is missed

If you bring back quick access and the save as buttons, an improvement would be an optional destination  configured by the user -  default behaviour unless you fill it in.  I use the snagit folder, one folder under that and a work folder where all PNG files go for further distribution

That is the kind of new feature that could significantly speed up workflow

I am fairly new to Snagit so I do not remember Quick Access Bar. But it sounds like it would do.

coming from this post which I appreciate a lot as it shows we are spending some time here for something, I would like to up that one as it is a crucial feature we used to have thanks to the Office-like custom shortcut toolbar.

Thanks

This Idea didn’t get enough votes to prioritize for active consideration at this time. So, we are marking this one as Not Planned for the time being. It’s definitely something that could be improved at some point in the future and it would be a valuable addition for those that regularly use the same tools. Our first step to solve that problem will be working toward having an easier way to access your favorite quick styles and tools. But at this point, there are a lot of other things things we’ll be focusing on first.

Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this round up.

Photoshop and Paint.NET have single-key shortcuts for many of their main tools.  And they're usually descriptive, e.g., "S" for selection tool or "V" for moVe tool, "T" for text and "F" for fill.  Man I'd love to see this added to Snagit.  If this isn't coming, I'd love to hear from anyone in this thread who's already created AutoHotkey overrides for their SnagIt installation.  Ctrl+1 isn't cutting it :)
