I want to do a one-time custom scroll capture, and your tutorial shows using the "Profile Settings" section of the snagit capture window, choose that option, and then start-capture.But V12 does not show a start-capture button, only save as profile (The graphic in the tutorial does not match V12 interface). Do I have to create a named saved profile eery time i want to do some different combination of features?
And do I have to open the Snagit-Capture-Window to do this, I usually do not have it open, it would be good If I could access such a feature from the toolbar Snagit icon.

Unfortunately,
SnagIt 12 is a bit of a Disaster when it comes to  functionality.

You will need to create a "named saved profile" for every style of capture. To be fair, when you install a new version of SnagIt, provided the old versions files are still installed. It can import your old profiles.

The Big Red Button is Dysfunctional by Design. You cannot assign a custom profile to the HUGE BUTTON.
You must click on a profile from it's drop down menu and select it manually, EVERYTIME.
If you have more than 4 profiles in a group you also need to scroll through the menu to find profiles that are not displayed.
See Image Below.

This is a classic example of why I scoff at anyone who Praises TechSmith for listening to their customers.

Don't get me wrong, they may Listen.
However, when it comes to "Actually Improving the Workflow" that  new versions have disrupted, disruptions that even a child can understand.

I  cannot site one thing they have done in recent versions.

As far as tutorials go, some are good and others provide less details than they could.
Plus, they don't bother updating many of them for new versions.  This only confuses people.

Regards, and good luck, Joe

Thanks - at least I won't keep looking for some hidden secret that I just missed for this common activity! :-)

Hi Guthrie,

We do make significant efforts to keep our tutorials updated when things change in the interface. It is possible you came across a tutorial for version 11, which may not work the best for using version 12. We keep the tutorials on our site for the prior major versions of our software as well, and sometimes they are mistaken for tutorials for the current versions. Apologies if that's the case here.

As far as setting up multiple profiles, Joe is correct in illustrating the method for starting those captures from the docked capture window. However, there are two other ways to initiate a saved profile capture that don't involve the capture window:

1. Many users set different hotkey combinations for their capture profiles. For example, I use Option+Shift+S to start an image capture that will open in the editor.

2. You can also access your profiles from the small Snagit icon in the Windows taskbar by right-clicking on it, then selecting the "Profiles" fly-out menu, and finally selecting a profile. This is a slightly slower option, but doesn't require you to memorize a hotkey combination.

Thanks for posting, and let us know if you have any more questions.

-Josh

P.S. We're double-checking the Snagit tutorials this morning to make sure we didn't miss something. If you have a direct link to the tutorial in question, could you provide it?

Suggest to add an option to show profile-list by just clicking on the SnagIt taskbar button, same as with good old v11 (and older)
Instead of 1) rightcick 2) select profiles, 3) select 'My profiles' and only then select the right profiles.
