I like the Smart Player, but it would be nice if there were ways to customize it.  Here are a few ideas:
  • Display TOC next to - instead of over - the video
  • Display TOC automatically when opening the video
  • Display TOC without thumbnails

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.
  • Display TOC automatically when opening the video
  • Display TOC without thumbnails
These to options are currently possible in the production settings for Camtasia.  Below is where to find the options in the production wizard.

Thanks,
Ben

regarding "Display TOC next to - instead of over - the video" ...

resize/reposition video in canvas to leave a blank area on left size; try 252px; you will need to shorten the canvas size height so you don't get a blank area under the video

do a custom production and set controls to not auto hide, with TOC set to initially display

when video is viewed, the TOC will be displayed on left side of video

another option, make TOC background more transparent

Thanks.  That's exactly what I was looking for.  Too bad, that your tech support doesn't seem to know about these options as they told me, that this was not possible (and suggested I'd post it in the forum as a suggestion) (see https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/719854)

Perhaps this will help: I used to go through the menus without READING the options. I just wanted to GET THE JOB DONE, AND START RENDERING.
But things changed when I started reading and digesting the menu options.

I agree, that I should have read the options more carefully when I created my first project, but that doesn't change the fact that their OWN TECH SUPPORT AGENTS don't even know that these options exist.
