cut out a person

a person is standing in front of a white wall with a black sweater and a white shirt under it. If you apply the Remove Color effect (green or similar), everything disappears and you can only see the head. I want to crop the person and put a completely new background behind it. How does that work? Thanks for the quick help.

You need to use the color picker to target a specific color.

Once you've done that, adjust settings to acquire the best results possible.

To add to Joe's response:  If the background is white and the person is wearing a white shirt, you may have an issue with the white shirt disappearing.

If this happens and cannot be adjusted with the controls, you can add what we used to call a "garbage mat [matte]" in order to prevent the white shirt from disappearing along with the white background.

One way to do this in Camtasia is do duplicate the video clip on another track above the color-removed one, but on that track simply crop away everything except the white shirt (just keep your video tracks in sync & you probably want to remove the audio from one of them).
