I would like to be able to have dashed lines when I create a shape like a circle, square, or ellispe in Snagit. running version 9.0.0. this is a product request. Should also have centerlines for shapes.

Note that you can have dashed lines for lines, but you cannot have it for the outline of a shape

when highlighting a shape (i.e. rectangle), under "Outline", I see a disabled "Dashes" option. Why is this disabled? If it's not a feature, I would think it would be hidden. So, assuming it is a feature, how do I get it enabled?

Thanks,
Russ

It's grayed out to tell you that feature is not available for a shape. If you do the same for a line than that feature will be available. This is a fairly standard way of programming that grays out features that aren't available to the user until they get the right item that turns it on.

I suppose that it could have been hidden when something like a shape is selected but that makes for a more complex menu that changes constantly. Anyway, if something is grayed it just means it's not available at the moment.

The issue is why is this feature unavailable for shapes? I have version 10 and use the shape function all the time and am frustrated when I cant used the dashed lines for shapes. Doesn't make sense why this simple feature is unavailable.

I did read the second post. All it does is acknowledge the issue. It however does not indicate a solution, possible fix, or if there is no solution, the reason why.

There is no solution or fix. That's the way the product is designed.

Just posting this to bring awareness to the "issue" . Hopefully the Snagit design/development team will pick this up as an enhancement feature for a future release.

I also very much would like for shapes to support dashed lines. This is really a common feature in vector editing tools like Visio, and I would use it frequently in callouts.

I love snagit, have been using for Years. I use PhotoShop extensively... but Snagit is SO much faster to open that it's still my tool of choice for most quick graphics. BUT... like the others in this thread, I OFTEN need DOTTED lines in shapes and would appreciate if you would add this to the next update. thanks!

I use rectangle shapes quite often in SnagIt editor to highlight buttons, fields etc to identify functions to be performed - e.g. click, select , enter. On occasion I want to highlight something else on the same page just to make its presence known It would be usaeful if the rectangle could be modified to dashes instead of solid lines. That does not appear to be availableat the moment.

I'm using version 10 on Windows and am disappointed that TechSmith could not figure out how to address this issue. I checked with my teammate and he's using Snagit 2.1.5 for Mac and his version has this feature. What should be the real excuse here?

I too am disappointed that Snagit doesn't support shapes with dotted or dashed outlines.  Hoping that this feature is added in an upcoming release.

I'm surprised this hasn't been added to the Windows version yet. Please provide this functionality soon! :)

I'm another user who would like SnagIt to provide different line styles (dashed, dotted, etc.) for shape outlines.

Is anyone at TechSmith reading this? It has been over years since this question was raised and the feature is not even available in the latest Snagit Windows version. What's going on here? Is there any plan for addressing this issue? My company purchased a large number of Snagit licenses and we really need this feature. So, it's time to port this feature from the Mac version to Windows version.

Hi Gil,

I agree that this is expected functionality within Snagit, I just wanted to be honest and transparent that while this feature is on the product backlog, currently, we are not working on it yet.

Thanks,

Jason

It's been a year since I raised this . Surely that's enough time to solve such a minimal issue.

Thanks for your transparency, Jason! Does the latest SnagIt for Windows offer:
1. "Duplicate" function and
2. Call outs with multiple tails?
We have those features in SnagIt for Mac and are dying for them to show up on SnagIt for Windows as well!

Kazu,

We haven't yet added the two features you've mentioned, we have received a number of requests especially for the multiple tail callouts, and they are also on the backlog, however, we haven't began working on them.

As you can imagine, with a product as widely used and longstanding as Snagit, we receive many many requests on a daily basis and continually strive to choose features/enhancements that will be very beneficial to our customers. Along with that comes the constant struggle of choosing one item over another and determining priority of this feature vs. that one. In the last 6-8 months we've committed to delivering new value on a much more frequent basis in hopes to enhance the product continually (as opposed to very large releases less frequently).

Thanks,

Jason

Thanks for your thoughtful reply! Many tech companies seem to be more focused on making new products rather than on improving on their great, past hit products. I appreciate TechSmith's interest in improving on their terrific, older hit products like SnagIt!

Are you plan to make "Dotted and Dashed Lines for Shapes" available?.

We are using Snagit as  tool for creating/ edit the pictures for Service Documentation as well as User Documentation. Most of the functions are just great.
But we are missing a simple feature " Dotted and Dashed Lines for Shapes".
This function is visible in the menu, but grayed out. Dashed circles are usually used to indicate a hidden area, like a screw behind a metal sheet, etc
Are there any plans to make this feature available?

Jason, is TechSmith really focusing on the Mac side of the house first and saying, oh-ew-um to the PC side in determining what gets added? It certainly seems that way over the past two major releases of SnagIt and Camtasia.

Hi Dave,

The Mac side is one contributor to deciding what things to add to TechSmith products/solutions, but no, Mac isn't a bigger focus than Windows. Our Mac products are much "younger", so there are lots of areas that need to be caught up to be comparable to the Windows counterparts. And in some cases, as with dashed outlines for shapes, the Mac side added certain capabilities right out of the gate, and now the Windows side needs to "catch up".

Thanks for the question!

+1 for the dash debate - this is something that I have wanted for a long time - at present I have to transpose my snags into whatever medium I am building a presentation (typically Word/PowerPoint) and then I add a dotted/dashed line - this is very inconvenient, and also means I lose the advantages of saving layered images (or non flattened) in my library
