Merged

This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Allow Snagit Library to be put on a network drive

I’d highly recommend adding this ability to for SnagIt to recognize moving the DataStore to Miscrosoft Onedrive. This would allow for each workstations snags to always be backed up, allow us to share Snags more easily, and would allow for multiple computers that you use to have access to a merged library of all your snags.

Ho Pete, and welcome to the forum.

There is a actually an existing request for this feature.  It would be really helpful if you could follow the link below and vote for it please.  The more votes, the better the odds.

Ehm ... help me to understand the question.
(I take the blame, it is me alright, I am probably missing something)

What I did:
exit SnagIt
copied the entire \Datastore to OneDrive
relaunched SnagIt and SnagItEditor and in SnagItEditor, Preferences, tab Library, point to datastore to OneDrive.
That seems to work.
Same as adding a OneDrive folder to SnagIt profiles (file save location)
This within both SnagIt on laptop and desktop.

Think this is working quite reasonable.
Then again, you may mean something differently?

Presumably you used the One Drive Folder on your PC?

Yes, that will work.  But it does not give you portability.  If you log in from another PC, you wan't be able to share the library between PCs.  It's not just just about putting the library elsewhere, it's about true shareability

Okay, I understand.

That aside, changing the library isn't that easy: when pointing to a different location (even though the contents of the old location has been copied), SnagItEditor will create a new folder.
Like:
x:\SnagItDatastore\Datastore
x:\SnagItDatastore\Datastore2
it won't accept the old location/existing data, so it seems.

There's simple fix to that:

  1. Completely exit Snagit so it is not running in the background (the Editor too; anything related to Snagit needs to be closed)
  2. Goto Registry Editor (press start and type regedit)
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
  4. Find the Software folder, then TechSmith
  5. Click on the 18/19 folder then in the right-hand pane scroll down to "DataStoreLocation"
  6. Delete that entry.  Yes, delete it.
  7. Relaunch Snagit and it will ask you where the Datastore is.
  8. Select your folder
