Go to File > Save As. Give your image a name and change "Save as type" to JPG - JPEG Image. Before you hit save, click on "Options..." at the bottom of the Save As window. When the options window pops up, click on Default and then click Okay. Then save. This should default you to JPEG format.

You can also reach all this by clicking on Share > File, and following the same steps.

This *should* make it default to JPEG format on future saves.

Go to Snagit Editor > Share > SaveAs preferences . That worked for me.

Thanks, but that did not work. New captures are still being saved in the SNAG format.

You would need to set up custom profiles.
You would be saving to a file of your choosing. You can have then named automatically or set it up so you name them at capture.

I don't do this myself, but I suspect you can set it up to save the images to the datastore as well?Provided theres no conflict with file naming?

My understanding is that the default of SNAG format allows you to capture not only your original capture, but also any change you may have subsequently made to the original capture. You would want shapes and text and comments made to that capture in SNAG format because it would allow scaling of those shapes/text/comments with no degradation in quality. If you had made no changes, feel free to Save As any format desired, but understand the limitations of your chosen format. The SNAG format allows you to make more changes without sacrificing the quality of the changes already made.
