Delete selection from audio track only?

I have a Camtasia Studio 8.6 project with several video tracks and an audio track. I need to delete a couple of seconds from the audio track here and there to make it sync up with the video tracks. However, when I select a segment on the Timeline and Delete or Cut, it deletes or cuts from all the tracks, not just the audio track. Is there a way to do this on just the Audio track? Thanks.

Hello,
Yes, just click the little lock icon on each track you do not want to edit.

Hello,

As long as only the desired (audio) track is highlighted, it should only cut that single track instead of all of them.

Hi,

In a situation like this, where you have overlaying tracks, even though only one is selected, all tracks will have the section removed, or cut and stitched together, if you perform a delete or cut. So, the cut will span the tracks, not be limited to just the selected track.

However, if you just want to delete one clip, or several selected clips, then you can just highlight and do a cut or delete. It is the selection with the playhead that makes the difference.

Are you able to make a selection and have the highlighted track be the only one that is cut or deleted?

I see the difference here; I never spread out the markers from the playhead. If I'm making a single cut to remove a portion of an audio track, it's a slice to make the cut and delete the portion no longer needed. Defining a region would be overkill for my simple cut but I can see it as being desirable in other situations.

Don't think I've locked a track since version 5!

I always lock the tracks I do not want to take the chance of deleting things on as a set practice in editing for me and it makes me feel better and assured. Just me and I have had the issue of doing what you said and it still deleted the other tracks. Might sound strange but things happen so I would better be safe than sorry just my way of doing things.

@Kelly Mullins, no that was the problem - even if I only had that one track selected, it would delete the highlighted segment from all the tracks (unless they are locked).

@Fred Grover - that is a good practice.
