Does this function delete the media from the drive or just remove it from the media bin?

Only from the media bin. The original stays intact on your drive.

Thanks I think remove would have been a better choice of words in the UI.

Yes it will only remove what is not being used on your timeline from the Media Bin and not delete the non-used materials/items from your original locations they are saved in. For new users I would agree maybe having that say remove and not Delete as it could be confusing to someone who has never used the software before.

This was a great question and thanks for posting it. Have a great day/night.

I'm a new user...I have 69 duplicate mp4 files in my Media bin. When I try to delete them, it says they are in use on the timeline, but I don't see it. How do I resolve this issue?

Can you share a screen capture of what your media bin looks like?

I've never seen the same file listed more than once there.

I discovered how the duplicate mp4s were created and why my hard drive is maxed out. When I started using Camtasia, I was attempting to recover an mp4. I imported the mp4, split the audio and display, then started splicing up the audio and adding it to the library. Each audio clip created a separate Frame# asset file with a full copy of the mp4 - hence the 69 copies of one mp4 and 45 copies of another mp4, and my full hard drive. Yikes! So now I start from scratch :-(

you may not have to "start over"?

I assume you are talking about 1 Camtasia project?

If just 1 project is involved, can you load that project, then export it as a zip [on file menu]?

can you zip that file?  if so, please advise, and I'll provide additional input

I deleted 11GB from the Camtasia library files. I was still able to open my project and all the screens/frames, call outs and graphics are in place. So it was just the audio that was causing the issue. I'm using the Voice Narration option to record the audio. So far so good.
