When i use the detach canvas function the canvas window detaches but does not display when i click that window from the taskbar it reverts back to the main Camtasia window.  So the canvas is not showing anywhere.

Is there an icon on your taskbar for the editor?
If there is and you hover your cursor over it, you should see the Editor and the Canvas

If you click on the pop-up with the canvas. It should re-appear somewhere.

I would try a Repair install or as of yesterday there was a update to 2019.0.4

https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

either way,  sounds like may be there is a quirk in your program.

Suggestion, click the taskbar icon to give it focus. Then press the Alt key + the Spacebar. then press the letter M. Then use any of your arrow keys (Up Down Right Left) then wiggle your mouse a bit. Do you see it then?
