Disappointing v13 - should have dropped 13 and moved to 14 directly ...

I have been using Snagit for many years but v13 is disappointing. In particular every time I try to cancel a capture with esc, Snagit crashes. The new layout of the editor is cumbersome and it disturbs new features which I may like but can't find. Where are the simple command icons such as cut and paste. Font sizes are restricted to those listed. I can't change the initial action - an arrow - in past versions it was the last chosen action.

There are many of use wondering what they were thinking with such a poor UI.
I realize that whoever created this look probably fell in love with their creation, that is normal for all of us that create things. In this case I hope they take a hint from so many users that we Liked the previous UI which is so much more user friendly and productive for Many of their loyal users.

The crash when pressing escape, and remembering your default tool should be fixed in an upcoming maintenance release.

You can use shortcut keys Ctrl+X, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V for Cut/Copy/Paste.  In addition, they are available in the right click menu.

You can customize the toolbar to add many items, however Cut/Copy/Paste do not appear to be among those listed. https://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-snagit-13-customize-your-editing-toolbar.html I have filed an issue for this.

Thanks! I know about these but the option on the toolbar was useful. Deleting the possible choice was wrong - I think ...

I've been using Snagit since v11, I am actually liking the v13, I wasn't a fan of v12.  I couldn't find the buttons for cut, copy & paste but I use Ctr-X,C & V anyway so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

In software design nowadays, the pendulum seems to be swinging the other way, erring on the side of hiding more advanced options in the UI in favor of (IMO too-stark) simplicity. Granted, things in the UI can always be organized better, improved, and simplified, but you have to take a balanced approach and not yank the rug out from under your long-time user base.

I ended up customizing the toolbar to show everything. It's not so bad. But I preferred 11 and 12 over 13 for many of the same reasons.

I hope TechSmith has Not forgotten their original mission for Snagit, To be the Best Screen Capture program on the planet and continue to add New Screen Capture features with each release.

If they Now want to be a do-all be-all Editing program with screen capture they should rethink that mission. All any of the best editing programs would need to do is add screen capture as good as Snagit and we would not need Snagit.

I really like Snagit for its Simple "Easy to use" Very Good Screen Capture Program abilities.

Adding too many features too quickly and do everything to try to "Please Everyone" is going to cause them to loose Focus on what really matters.

This concept has caused many companies much financial heartache and for some to go belly up.
I have seen it first hand and so have many of you.

I hope they have not already lost focus.

It should be more about Quality and Simplicity.

Not sure if this is related but I am having issues with this version as well. I have had no problems with all the previous versions that I have been using for many years.  But the editor hangs and I get the default ding as if another window has focus. I can use the task manager to see no other windows are active or running for that manner. Only way to regain control is kill the app.

And I agree with keeping it simple.

@Techsmith

Quality and not quantity counts.
Quality dislikes you?
Or you like quantity?

I personally love Quality.
Even if it will take/wait longer time.

Least we have a Quality product without any blemish or issue.

Hi There!

I wanted to let you know that we have just released Snagit 13.0.2 and it addresses a few of these issues (default tool & crashing while cancelling a capture). Head on over to my announcement post for more details.

Thanks! This is a very quick reaction. Snagit needs to stay the best affordable capure + photo-editor! Perhaps you could also add the option (which was available ine earlier versions) that the text font sizes could be changed continuously and not only within a restricted choice.
