Hate the new toolbar. Slow and I like to get to work. Put it back like it was.
Have cursor default to "Select." I hate having to change it when I change images.
When I save an image, at top of page, * is still visible.
Back for more as I discover things. Thanks.
Oh, I know it sounds negative but I love SnagIt. Love the "Save As" option (ctrl 2).
I wanted to address your comment about the Crop function. We did add some added functionality there, but overall, crop works the same way.
- Select the crop tool.
- Drag a selection on your canvas of what to keep.
- Click Crop. That's it. Only now, we brought the final click stage closer to your mouse cursor so you don't have to move up to the top of the screen again.
Also, we realize there will be a learning curve for this new version. There is a new UI, new tools, and new workflows to get to know. While we have lots of videos and tutorials to help people over the hump, a lot of people prefer to discover the new workflows on their own which might take them a bit longer to get up and going.
Overall, for anything new, it takes a dedicated time investment to see if it will be of benefit to you. For some who can/want to invest the time, they will find the investment paid off with new features and better overall workflow for their daily tasks.
However, for those who like the version of Snagit they are using, that is perfectly fine as well. We know people are busy and don't always have the need or time to learn something new.
For reference, here is our video tutorial page. For those wondering about the new interface, new features, etc. check them out! And, as always, the new Snagit is free to try for 15 days. No monetary investment is needed up front.
I've been poking around in it now for a few days and trying to make it flow as easily as it used to (I know it will take time). However, the single biggest thing I can't get around is the fact that my current tool does not stay selected when switching images!!!! I've searched through all the settings and I can't find it. PLEASE make that a choice. Don't force me into a workflow that doesn't work for me.
For crop, I select an area and used to, if I go outside of the image while dragging the mouse SnagIt would automatically just select the outer boundaries of the image (which I like). Now if I go outside of the image while selecting an area to crop SnagIt adds to the image (which I don't like). Another reason the old way was better (for me). :-)
SnagIt's crop tool is Arcane?
You should give TechSmith some credit here.
They've adopted some of Photoshop's functionality into SnagIt 13.
Photoshop has worked this way for many years.
Here I am cropping your comment in Photoshop CC.
The beauty of this crop tool? You can see exactly what's cut out before applying the crop.
Plus, you're free to re-position the image to taste, within the cropped area.
To me, Custom Trim is pretty Arcane. I've always felt that way about it. It's unsophisticated, slower, and not as versatile.
To be fair, I'm a Photoshop user from way back. The more tools TechSmith models after Photoshop the Better!
Rule of Thirds, probably isn't needed in SnagIt very often. Might not be a bad thing if you could shut off the grid in preferences.
It's quick, but destructive.
The best thing about Custom Trim is that it was Non-Destructive.
Not as quick or versatile as version 13's "Crop".
Cropping an image as shown in your video. Can lead to hitting undo multiple times and starting over. Because you've deleted pixels destructively.
If you were using version 13's "Crop". You correct for errors on the fly.
