Do I need to keep the temporary recordings? They take up a lot of storage. I have not exported the video yet as an MP4 file at this point.

Probably best to keep them, but one of the save types is to 'create standalone project'
If you used this option when saving your project then the media used in your project should be saved with it.

As a rule of thumb, I tend to just keep all the temp recordings and clean them up from time to time.

Note that you can change the locations of the recordings in Camtasia preferences under "recording".

This can be helpful if you have an external drive connected and want the recording files to go there to free space from your built in drive.

Thank you for the help. One more question... If I put all of the temp. recordings on an external hard drive, I can still access and edit my original file save on another device correct?

I just did a test with this and it worked, but I want to make sure before I start putting all of those files on my external hard drive.

Thanks again.

Yep, you can store the recordings on an external drive, and access and edit the original elsewhere.

If you ever run into a scenario where you see 'ghosts' in place of your video files, it means they are not where Camtasia expected them to be, and I believe there's a way to tell camtasia the new location if you moved them.

I don't think you'll run into this, but wanted you to know about it just in case.
