Does the new Techsmith Capture have the little Sunshine you put in the side of your screen?

I went to create a screenshot today and got a notice that Jing is being retired in July and replaced with Techsmith Capture.  The feature I like most about Jing is the little sunshine that you put in the side of the screen.  It make creating screenshots easy no matter what I am doing, and I hope that the little sunshine will be in the new version.

If we don’t have an On Top option, the capture is useless for me, this the whole reason using Jing.

Thank you for the feedack! This isn't a part of TechSmith Capture right now, but we are considering it, and it helps to hear from people that like it or why they prefer it to a menu bar item, a window, or a hotkey for example.

It is both useful in a utilitarian fashion, as well as very cute.

Hi Paul
Since you talk about retiring Jing long time ago, I requested this sun-feature as top priority no 1.
Techsmith Capture don't stand out better than other clip products in the market, but Jing is absolutely leading in design and functionality compared to Techsmith Capture, so if you not are using the video mode, it's still a mystery why it's retired when it's still better than TC.
I'm using Jing many times a day in Remote Desktop environment, but TC is useless if you don't have an on-top option like the Jing sun.

The menu bar gets crowded, so having Capture, like Jing, positioned automatically at the top center of the screen is very convenient. Also, it is a prominent reminder of the great people at Techsmith who offer such a useful tool - I never bother looking at the competition, because the little yellow sun is always there.. Please try to include it; it is a much loved feature in Jing.

+1 for re-instating this feature. I just installed Techsmith Capture. Straight away I'm looking for the "Sun" and it's gone.

You'd think the developers would look a the base functionality and enhance it, not remove things. But hey that's just my opinion, being a computer programmer for 20 years.

Is there no video recording tool anymore in Techsmith Capture? I've just tried a capture and it seems like I can only do a screenshot.

Thank you for your feedback.

As for video- it's just like Jing. After you drag out the area you want to capture, you can pick 'image' or 'video'.
Unlike Jing, though, you can:
  1. record more than 5 minutes
  2. use the webcam too
  3. record system audio

history of images previously captured then copied or saved
a sun to initiate a capture would be nice (like jing)
the ability to access/import image history from jing in to capture would be nice also

Please don't take my sunshine away. I use the  new capture all the time for video and live with it being more clicks, but I prob use the sunshine 30 times a day. My working day will be darker without it.

+1 for the sun feature. That's my favorite feature of Jing that I will miss in Capture. Using the Shift + F11 hotkey is way more cumbersome than selecting the "sun" to initiate a screen capture. PLEASE add this to Capture!

Another big, major +1 for the sun. It's the main reason I liked Jing. I can get plenty of other screencap tools that use a hotkey or sit in the system tray but the Jing sun was far more useful. I work in tech support with multiple monitors and am constantly taking screenshots of various sizes and portions of different monitors, while flipping between 20-40 tabs and windows in different places, and it has been extremely useful knowing that if I want a screenshot, I only need to flick my wrist to the left and there's my Jing sun sitting on the edge, no matter what. With Jing support ending today, I installed Capture and I am disappointed in the "on top" window, which is yet another window taking up screen real estate instead of an unobtrusive little half-bubble on the edge.  I'm already looking for other options that might have a better on-top access feature like Jing's.

Please bring back the sun! That was one of my favorite tools. :)

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the feedback! Keeping Capture unobtrusive and accessible is a key focus for us. Would being able to start a capture via hotkey, with Capture in the menu bar, work for your case?

I have a wonderfully obscure key (three horizontal bars) I have no idea what it is for. But I have set this up as a hot key and it sort of works because I don't have to press horrid key combinations. BUT really important I need to be able to just press the key to set it up, there is no way I could select it from a list!

Having said that I still prefer the little sun.

I  have already implemented this, but it's not the same. My hand is already on the mouse meaning I have to lift it off or use the other hand to press a hot-key, as well as breaking my gaze from the screen to look at the keyboard. You might consider not a big deal, but doing this many times each day is another keystroke I could do without.
