Download smart player

When ever I render a project for the first minute or so it says it is trying to download Smart Player. I am firewalled so Camtasia can't talk to or download anything since I verified my new install. Is there any way to get it to stop trying to down load this player each time?

That's weird but maybe this will help:

You can render without the smart player by choosing the option to export an MP4 only or by choosing "local file" from the Share menu in the top right corner. When the menu opens, select "custom production settings" and select your media type. When you get to the controller tab, uncheck "produce with controller".

It's only rendering an MP4 that's saved directly on your hard drive.

Where are you using your videos?  You may Not need the SmartPlayer.

The Smart Player updates itself.
This process is independent of standard maintenance update installs. I read this in a comment where the  member was inquiring about updating his  SmartPlayer version.
TechSmith told them it would update itself. Nothing to download.

It seems this would require intervening/stopping this process. There may be a registry setting?

I would ask Tech support for a solution if its still occurring.

Hello Willie,

Is the process of downloading the latest version of Smart Player slowing up the production process on your end because the firewall blocks it?

Joe is correct about what Camtasia is trying to do.  We ship updates / bug fixes to the TechSmith Smart Player much more frequently than Camtasia ships updates.  But if having this feature blocked by a firewall is adding a real delay to the production process we'd like to know.

Thank you,
Ben

The question is how is Camtasia even trying to download the player if he has the firewall blocking communication?

I would take a guess that the firewall is not fully blocking Camtasia communication and/or the update option in the Camtasia settings is not turned off and it trying to get a update.

I have one machine that i have blocked so Techsmith can not update the smart_player files because I have edited them to customize the player controls the way I want them.

Yes I do know the Techsmith does not support editing the files and I'm Ok with that.

I don't get anything stating Camtasia is trying to download the smart-player.

I have occasionally seen the "trying to download" message, but only when launching Camtasia, not when trying to produce; it's my understanding that on launch, Camtasia tries to check for a more recent smart player version than currently installed, and will download if appropriate

Thanks all. I will give support a call. This is the second day I have had this version so I might be me. It only takes a minute or so, its not the end of the world. Just an annoyance. If there are IPs & ports that need to be opened I can do that as well. I keep it fairly tight with only white listed apps getting out.

Thanks again for the responses and help.

The base URL that Camtasia will try to pull the files from is:
https://cdn.cloud.techsmith.com/smartplayer/5/latest/

If you want to modify your Firewall settings.
