I would like to be able to drag-and-drop existing tracks and all objects on these tracks to easily move all content in one track closer to all content in another track.

you can do this now
select all media on track; group [ctlG]
move track to desired location; ungroup [ctl-U]

Another way to select is to use the Selection options under Edit menu. (I was expecting this to be a Right Click option. What I do is use the Alt Right or Left arrow key to select part or all some of the clips on a track.
If you just want some from the middle you can select one clip and hold the Shift key and select the last in the group.
Hope this helps,
Bill

Thank you for the suggestions. Although these are reasonable workarounds, it would be better if we could drag-and-drop entire tracks instead of having to move one or more objects on a track to a new track. It takes less clicks, provides a faster workflow, and there is less chance for messing something up.
